From my Brother VVAW The Uncounted
Military components of the US occupation of Iraq suffered 183 combat casualties in the week ending Aug 28th (up from 108 last week) bring the total since the invasion to 21,868. Casualties from hostile causes include 19,773 wounded and 2,095 killed in action.
U.S media choose to hide this total from the public by deviating from previos practice and ignoring troops wouned in action by not providing a total casualty count .Instead they generally report only the much lower figure of 2,634 total deaths ,which includes 539 (same as last week) from what the Pentagon classifies as "Non Hostile" causes. The survivors of those victims do not receive the same benefits and support as KIA's.
The public is also given deliberately minimized and false totals because the Pentagon keeps secret and the media do not investigate another estimated 20,000 casualties-troops whose pften life altering injuries were sustained from the same "Non Hostile" causes its rep

6. You're welcome.
And, not to put too fine a point on it, but I'm female and never served. So I'm not sure I count as a brother. :D

Thanks for keeping this information in front of us. We should never forget what's being done to "our" "troops."

8. Oh, no. No problem! Honestly.
The main thing is the message. Not the messanger, or in my case, the link "fixer."

It would only bother me if you were sitting across the table from me and couldn't tell. Then I would seriously be p.o.'d.

3. Good post - exactly right.
The closer they get to political trouble the more creative their math gets.

And I think our 4th estate is totally pathetic.

5. A national guard member said they keep the reported counts low so as not
to let the "enemy" know how accurate/successful they have been with their attacks. He said it would "encourage" the "enemy" if they knew how many times they hit their targets.

I firmly believe that they are keeping the numbers low and changing how they do their counts to keep the American public pacified and not outraged.

I believe the real numbers should be about 60-80K injured and that does not count all the vets that haven't returned that will soon be filing for PTSD.
