Dumb question: Why was Malloy fired?
Please do not link me to another thread. Especially not that one in LBN which is 300 posts long.

Amidst all of this chatter about Malloy, I can't seem to find an objective statement from anyone stating why he was actually fired (or "not renewed"). Or a news release from some other source.

3. From mike's website
MIKE MALLOY FIRED BY AIR AMERICA RADIO

There will be no Mike Malloy program today - or any day - on Air America Radio as we have been terminated. We are told its a financial decision.

We are as shocked as you are, especially since as recently as last Tuesday we were told we had the go-ahead to announce our return to NY airwaves and that our contract was "on the way."

We are told its a financial decision.

More details to follow as we hear them ourselves.

Holy Christ, man! This is the way it works in EVERY radio station. The phrase is " You never get to do your last show."

Mike knows that. He's a professional.

It was a simple question and you are not that funny :eyes:

I didn't say I believe 9/11 conspiracy theories (I don't believe the official story but thats another issue-I don't believe the official story on any darn thing from BushCo)

But many lefty orgs want to have nothing to do with people that have tin-foilers on...and I heard Malloy had some tin-foilers on-thats what I was getting at.

I said I don't didn't I?

I have no idea what the truth is...I just know I don't believe the official story on 9/11 any more than I believe anything else coming from this admin...
what part of that was unclear?

9. The OP on the front page and LBN is from Malloy's wife and producer...
I would imagine that's as close to the situation as you can get...

<snip>
"We don't have all the details yet, but got a tip from someone who'd seen the new network lineup that we weren't included after all. We just had that confirmed by one of the suits a few minutes ago. We're told that its a financial decision."
<end>

I haven't seen any specific details other than that statement, sorry if that's not what you're looking for... maybe Malloy will have more details up at his website soon..

:hi:

12. No real detail on why this award winning show was dropped
Financial reasons could mean one large funder listened in when Mike was raging and got upset and just never bothered to check in again to hear Mike's great sense of humor and historical perspective. He was great at pointing out the figures in Bush II that are retreads from the Reagan Bush era of death squads and other war crimes their administrations supported. He has a great memory for historial detail which delighted me very often. It is so disappointing that AAR is so short sighted and doesn't realize someone as exciting as Mike draws in lots of people other boring middle aged banter shows can't reach.

13. Fund raiser?
Its a radio station, not a charity. Radio stations survive on advertising. Period. Mike obviously wasn't drawing advertisers. In my opinion that's because AAR couldn't figure out how to sell someone like him.

32. It's NOT all about ratings ...
Otherwise, why, for instance, was Phil Donahue's show shut down on NBC despite having the highest ratings?

It's also about silencing voices who don't fall into line, in this case the DLC "center" -- even on a suppossedly liberal radio network.

33. That is an unfair comparison
MSNBC is a shitty cable arm of the NBC family. For a time there was talk of trashing it and moving the whole operation to CNBC. It's gained in importance over it's ten years of operation, but back then, it was losing money across the board. At the time, MSNBC wasn't making money; they were in the "growth" phase and trying to just stay afloat. Also, that turd Jack Welch was exerting a lot of influence. So, MSNBC wasn't making money on their popular shows, or their unpopular shows.

AAR is in the black now.

That said, they were fools to dump Phil. It was a huge mistake, and they know it. Blame the late Jerry Nachman for that error.

24. Couldn't sell him?
Any management that would continue with Jerry Springer's morning whinings has no idea what AAR is supposed to be about. They obviously can't sell much (and AAR's financial problems has been no secret and has not been only rw rantings- look at the local stations that have dropped AAR).

No chance it was what they said it was I suppose...a financial decision... because you know that AAR is a well know bastion of right-wing sentiment.

25. Nothing solid yet, but my strong objective feeling: 9-11 Conspiracy talk
IMO, the times I've heard him talk about the conspiracy it always drifts slightly into the supposed "tin-foil hat land." I think that is why they pulled the plug. Malloy has, in recent months, featured 9-11 Conspiracy people and this is what makes the suits uncomfortable.

He has never gone off the deep end into absurd MIHOP conspiracy claims, but he does flirt near the ledge.

Damn, it's not the same without him on the radio...
