Say it ain't so..Muslim Group Offended by Mercury Party |
|
(08-31) 05:29 PDT ZANZIBAR, Tanzania (AP) -- A huge beach party to honor late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury must be stopped because the Zanzibar-born rock star was gay, a Muslim leader said Thursday. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/08/31/entertainment/e052904D47.DTL

1. Muslim who loves Queen is greatly offended by my fellow Muslims |
|
There are few things more horrible when a minority group bashes another minority group.

4. they are NOT a minority group in this case... |
|
where this is at is muslim majority. religious tyranny and bigotry does not require majority or minority status, only exclusionary belief systems that claim everyone else is inferior, crap, infidels, heathens, etc.

on edit: what I mean by that is that these busybodies are a minority group on the island.
By the way, did you even read what the owner of the restaurant said?

2. There's two sides to the story: |
|
"Mercury restaurant, which was named for the singer, will go ahead the party, manager Simai Mohammed said...
Our main idea is to promote tourism and Freddie Mercury was from Zanzibar. It's part of our history," Mohammed said. "We are all Muslims and it's not our intention to offend any religion."
There are prudish busybodies everyhwere, I don't think this story is a big deal.

3. It should read "Conservative fundamentalist group" |
|
That would be much more in line with what's going on.
I hate it when the media equates a particular faith with its nuttiest adherents.

7. Why do christian fundamentalists |
|
in America care about gay behaviour?
There are busybodies everywhere. Again read what the owner of the restaurant said.
I've been to Zanzibar and met lots of gay pople there. It's not a big deal, but as with everywhere in this world there are always people who interfere in other people's lives.

8. Because to them the world |
|
is on a linear scale.
Evil<------.-------->Good
And we are . on the scale, as more "Evil" behavior is accepted as norm, with Evil being defined as everything they find biblically incorrect or ungodly, we slide further down the scale towards evil.
Therefore since they are the vanguards of everything Right & Just they must use every means at their disposal to fight this "Evil"...

9. That sort of backs up my point - |
|
Islam is a culture. Christendom is a culture.
Not everyone who is a muslim is a fundamentalist, same way as not all christians/Americans/Europeans are foaming-at-the-mouth Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell wingnuts.

This does not implicate one Culture or Tribe, it's always the rabid fringe elements who push for the most exclusionary terms.
And to those any deviation is "Wickedness".

11. I'm really tired of reading about "offended" Muslims. Christians, too, |
|
for that matter. Jews, I'm still giving a pass to.

I'm sure there are just as many offended Hindus, Confucians, Buddhists etc in the world. It just doesn't make good copy.
Christian fundamentalists want to take over America, that's why we keep hearing about them. They also want to take over the ME oil countries, that's why we keep hearing how bad the muslims are, so that when we carpet-bomb their countries we can feel like we're doing them a favor (or getting rid of unworthy sub-humans).
