Here's a thought: BOYCOTT FRANKEN. |
|
Lay it out clearly for him. Unless he discusses his involvement in Malloy's firing, unless he uses his pull within AAR to get him back, unless he shows he's really a friend of the Left, then we're done with him.
No more listening to the Franken show. No more buying Franken books. No more tickets to live events or movies. And most importantly, support for his primary challenger in the 2008 Senate race.
They're hitting the Left where it hurts, now we need to hit back.
"They send one of your guys to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue." No Mike Malloy, no "Senator Franken."

Franken is concerned about his Senate run in 2008. He doesn't like being connected with "radical" left wingers. He's so busy triangulating himself right now, that he makes Hillary look like Abby Hoffman.
How about it, Al? Did you support Mike Malloy's firing? Do you now?

you're calling for the boycott of a left-leaning radio host because the station that broadcasts him fired another left-leaning (albeit further-left-leaning) host, based on nothing but speculation?
Isn't this what's referred to as a circular firing squad?

1. Franken is the real power host at AAR and was instrumental in its inception. He would have the clout at AAR to make 'demands'.
2. Sam and Randi have nothing to gain by Mike's firing. Al is the one and only who tends to gain by a more moderate centrist approach at the network with his looming Senate candidacy and he has the influence to make Mike's demise a reality.

Being a "moderate Democrat" is the dumb idea of the century if you ask me.
If you stand in the middle of the road, you get run over. If you sit on the fence, all you get is a pole up your ass.
Mike was one of the few voices out there for the Left. Al is drifting more into the "say anything to get elected" camp, and doesn't deserve our support unless he earns it.

You might guess that from my screen name. But waking up on the bathroom floor a few times has taught me that you have to pick your shots. So I am moderately immoderate so I can be radical longer, and so I don't get disinvited because I always puke up the place.
Franken gets into places that a Malloy or Randi can't. But you know that. He is brilliant and on our side. Nothing to be gained by making him a target. Now I gotta stop because I'm making myself sick.</moderation>

Basically, I have changed to the Head On Radio Network, so I will miss Randi, in all likelihood (at least when she is back). I have a new network in my realplayer, and probably will not hear Air America much anymore. Not a boycott, really, but the same effect.

... but I suggest we all go a step further and launch a total AAR boycott. Cancel your premium subscriptions, cancel your podcasts, and boycott their advertisers. I also think we should enlist Randi Rhodes, although I am not a big fan of her broadcast, she has always been a supporter of Mike Malloy. Perhaps she can use some of her influence as well as her large fan base.

No one on the right likes him (obviously), and from what I can see, large portions of the left don't care for him, either...usually because he isn't very entertaining or engaging.
Quite frankly, he has NO business being a radio host. He's as boring as humanly possible.
And IF he did have something to do with Malloy's dismissal (I still can't believe it...), t hen quite frankly, I hope Franken finds his life to become a failure and Bill O'Reilly personally finds him on the street and kicks him in the balls. Twice.
If AAR were smart, they'd get Stephanie Miller in the mornings, Hartmann in Franken's slot and give Malloy a better slot

Franken is by FAR the most popular host on AAR and played an integral role due to his name-recognition in the success of AAR. No demographic is 100% lockstep with a particular talk-show host. Large portions of the right don't care for Rush Limpbaughs either.
Keep in mind, large portions of the left don't like Malloy and are happy to see him go as well.

16. Why Not Burn The Village - Add To The Financial Woes |
|
Malloy cited financial problems as a major reason his contract wasn't renewed at AAR. Would that be caused by the network losing money? Sure sounds like it. Are revenues at AAR stations either flat or down (as is all of radio). Could be. Is AAR expanding or promoting their programming? Sounds like they're holding on for dear life. Is this a Von Rumsfeldt Press Conference? Might as well be.
Radio has deregulated itself into Airline hell. Advertisers find more bang for their precious buck on cable or newspapers or internet and not on radio...and definitely not on controversial talk radio. There's a lot of belt-tightening going on at AAR and I expect we'll see more, not less to come. The network is banking on a lot of Democratic outrage to turn into ratings this fall...so is Clear Channel that is all but supporting the network. Hopefully the network will shoot through this latest ripple...but it's not gonna be easy.

I can't comment on Mike Malloy, as our local AAR/progressive station (WWRC-AM, 1260) does not carry him.

39. So apparently AAR survived in spite of all the predictions |
|
by Rush/Bill/Sean that it would go under before the year was out because no one would listen. Instead we are going to let their predictions come true before we have all the facts. Sounds like a Karl Rove plan. If you can't win fairly, then plant a bomb in the middle of them and let them self destruct.
I hope that another liberal radio outlet does arise because AAR does need competition. That way there is plenty of air time for everyone and let the best man win. I would wage that Mike Malloy would get the majority of the audience against most anyone else on the roster except Randi, who seems to channel Mike at times, but boycotting the only station available right now seems like we are shooting ourselves in the foot.
