REID Accuses Republicans of Using "DOUBLESPEAK" to Sell Agenda
Reid accused Republicans of using "doublespeak" to sell their agenda.

"When they wanted to let energy companies release more pollution into the air, they called it the 'Clear Skies Initiative,'" he said. "When they wanted to let loggers cut down more trees and weaken environmental laws, they called it the 'Healthy Forests Initiative.'

"My favorite Republican doublespeak is when they wanted to give tax breaks to their special interest friends even though it meant adding more than $50 billion to our deficit, they called their effort the 'Deficit Reduction Act,'" he said.

Reid's harsh criticism followed an apology he made this week to Republicans senators for a news release outlining reports of ethical problems, singling out individual senators.

1. Give em Hell, Harry!
Why did we need a Department of Homeland Security? Isn't that what the Department of Defense is for?

2. IRONY, Harry
I agree with your premise of knucklehead republicans playing silly word games to keep their ignorant base all peppy and happy but I'd have to suggest that you dabbled in doublespeak yourself; telling the truth about corrupt republicans, and then apologizing for it?!? They are corrupt Harry, no apology needed.

5. Had you heard of it before??
I didn't know he'd even released the list until he apologized for it. Somebody needs to get a list in order to see what terrible things Harry was saying, don't you think???

9. Well, you won't get the list from the MSM, it seems. That's what makes...
... Reid's apology a negative overall.

15. Somebody's got it
We should turn the negative into a positive, I wouldn't be surprised if the list doesn't leak out right when the rattling reaches peak volume.

6. And notice how the mention of Reid's apology has become...
...a sort of boilerplate slipped into every story about him now.

Apologizing to our political opponents is DUMB DUMB DUMB.

10. Especially when he said something
he had no reason to apologize for. Republicans in Washington have taken the government and its operation into their septic tank. Shine the light on them, do not apologize to them.

3. doublespeak
I think that's a great word to use to describe it, just wish we'd come up with it 5 years ago!!

BTW, does anybody have the list of 33 Republican politicians and their corrupt practices that Reid apologized for bringing to the attention of the American people???

We really need to spread it all over the place and let people know how horrible Harry is for daring to mention the corrupt practices of these 33 Republicans.

8. In all actuality
I was not aware of the ethics report that was released until the uproar over his apology for it. I think Reid knows what he is doing.

12. Meh. He could have trucked in a load of cow manure for a publicity stunt..
... if all he wanted was a way to draw attention to the list.

Why deliberately play into one of the worst stereotypes about Dems, one that alienates voters who say we lack fire in the belly?

4. "is Bush the Antichrist? "

I ask myself that question almost daily, when I hear about some absurd revisionist explanation of why everything they do has to work backwards like Seinfeld in Bizarro World:

We have to cut down the forests to save them.
We have to bomb the Iraqis to protect them.
We have to restrict American freedom so we can protect liberty.
We have to protect the overseas outsourcing of jobs to create new jobs.
We have to save money on the war by privatizing and providing a profit.
I can't even lucidly convey the concept of how there were no Al Queda terrorists in Iraq until well after the US occupation of Iraq.

My head is spinning.

14. Apology?
Until the GOP apologizes to the American citizenry for the policies and legislation they have supported that have enriched Big Business and banks to the detriment of every working-class American, have curtailed our personal freedoms and our right to privacy, have turned our voting system into an easily-manipulated sham, have sent our soldiers into harm's way based on lies and misrepresentations, and have sent them thereto without the necessary equipment to ensure their safety, NO DEMOCRAT SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO THEM FOR ANYTHING.
