Did you know the FAA is now making ATCers use |
|
Vacation time to leave their control towers to get something for lunch/dinner?
That's right, friends. No more "chow runs". You want something for lunch you gotta bring it with you or use vacation time to go get it.
Isn't that special?

This is part of the new imposed rules. ATCers are working without a contract.
These new rules are effective beginning Sunday. There are also very strict dress codes that will be implemented as well as changes in how controllers ask for vacation time.

I'm betting there is a half hour unpaid lunch break in there somewhere, mandated by law along with those 15 minute breaks every 2 hours.
You can go outside and fly a kite on that half hour. It's unpaid time, so it's not their time.
However, any lunch hour that is spent at one's post with a sandwich in one's hand should be listed on that time card as "no lunch."
A formal complaint with the NLRB might be a place to start. Management in his tower is just throwing its collective weight around. Scare the hell out of their fat asses.

4. She says FAA's reasoning is "safety for controllers" |
|
They're afraid somebody will get in a car wreck or hit by a bus on the FAA's watch. :eyes: Controllers can't even go across to the termnial (for coffee or anything without using annual leave) anymore.
These new dress codes should be fun too. The regs don't say anything about fishnet stockings and 3 inch heels

7. That is SUCH horse shit |

If they were that concerned, they wouldn't "allow" employees to use up vacation for what is essentially UNPAID TIME.
Tell her to make that phone call, at the very least. Follow it up with a letter of complaint to the NLRB, copy to the union.

I agree with you, but the kite idea is funny, considering it's probably a real bad idea around an airport...
