MoveOn takes a pass on the Clinton/Tasini primary
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 07:27 PM by Robbien
We wanted to let you know, MoveOn won't be making an endorsement in the U.S. Senate Democratic primary. In voting over the last day, neither Hillary Rodham Clinton nor Jonathan Tasini garnered the two-thirds support from MoveOn members necessary for an endorsement. The margin in our online vote was 56 percent for Clinton and 44 percent for Tasini.

It would be great in my opinion if the actual primary numbers were as close as this. Then perhaps Clinton would stop pandering to the right leaning "middle/moderate" voters she keeps chasing.

1. What I don't understand...
...is how Clinton could get as many votes as she did. I always thought MoveOn was a progressive site, but now I'm not so sure. I'm seriously considering NOT supporting MoveOn after this fiasco.

2. How beautifully ignorant.
"Gosh, moveon refuses to not-support this one senator I don't think is democratic enough, and, even given the monumental amount of good work MoveOn does, this one teeny little bit of their failure to be absolutely 100 percent in line with my perfect definition of "liberal" is enough to make me abandon them entirely and utterly."

Woo hoo!!

Yeah, keep on fighting those fights! NO COMPROMISE!!

3. I will definitely keep on fighting those fights
Hillary Clinton is NOT a progressive candidate...Tasini is.

4. MoveOn isn't very Progressive at all
When reading any of the Progressive blogs you don't see people talking about MoveOn. MoveOn is more establishment DC Democratic Party.

Other than their email about the vote they were having on Clinton/Tasini, I have read very little about it. In fact this is the first I've read on it.

5. It all depends on how they phrase the question
Many people are STILL unaware of Clinton's hawkishly centrist stance on the issues, and MoveOn's bios in the poll were not all that clear.
