Mayor Bob O'Connor of Pittsburgh has died.
A couple minutes ago.
God rest your soul, Mayor O'Connor.

He was a good man.

I took this just a couple months ago at Rendell's kickoff.

1. Not being from the area, can you share any more details?
Was he ill or an accident?

5. Mayor O'Connor had cancer.
A rare and apparently virulent strain of lymmphoma.
He was only mayor for 6 months, after trying for many years. He had wanted to be mayor of Pittsburgh probably most of his life.
He did so much in such a short time.
He really was a very good man.

3. I went to grad school in Pittsburgh
They had a "fair" mayor - Flannery (?) and a really great Mayor, Dick Caliguiri - who also died too young.

They're swearing in Luke Ravenstahl at 10:30 tonight. Twenty six years old. Youngest mayor in Pittsburgh's history. Best of luck to him.

4. I heard on WPTT this AM that they removed all the life support,
and I think we all know it was a matter of a very short time. God bless his soul.

I wsquite surprisedto hear the man who will be sworn in is only 26! Isure he knowswhat he's doing, because there sure can't be a LOT of experience there!

10. And he never even got to leave the hospital that entire time
Poor guy. First the shocking diagnosis from what seemed to be minor symptoms, then aggressive, debilitating chemotherapy which proved ineffective, then aggressive, targeted radiation, then infection, then death.

I'm sad and angry right now. O'Connor was on his way to becoming an involved and wonderful mayor for Pittsburgh. DAMN IT!

13. I know. I first heard it on Lynn Cullen's show.
She always kept her audience updated on how he was doing. I think it was only last week they discontinued chemo and began some new direct brain treatment, and Lynn saidit really doesn't soundgood at all.

I didn't know this Mayor, but I was born in PGH. and only moved when I was 45 years old, so I still pay close attention to what is going on there.
