Rove intent on making war on terror the pre-eminent issue in 2006
Karl Rove made no mention of Republican opposition to both the Patriot Act and the surveillance program, which has posed a political problem for this White House, while he laid out his case against the Democrats strategy to maintain its dominance in the fall elections.

Rove: "Let me be as clear as I can be: President Bush believes if Al Qaeda is calling somebody in America, it is in our national security interest to know who they're calling and why," Mr. Rove said, referring to the program in which the National Security Agency eavesdropped on conversations without getting a warrant from a judge. "Some important Democrats clearly disagree."

The speech by Mr. Rove was by any measure a highly unusual political event in Washington. It marked a relatively rare public speech by one of the best-known public officials in this White House and it came at a time that Mr. Rove himself is under investigation for his role in leaking the name of an undercover C.I.A. officer to reporters.

In his speech, Mr. Rove made no mention of his own legal situation. And even as he sought to rally his troops, he made no mention of an issue that accounts for much of the Republican concern about the coming midterm elections: The influence-peddling investigation of Congress that has focused on some senior Republican leaders, including Tom DeLay, who is stepping down as majority leader.

2. Good.
We do, too. And Karl Rove betrayed the public by playing political hardball with the families of intelligence analysts. Karl will be one of out poster boys in 2006.

5. fine, let him make that an issue
what have they done?

They invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or al queada, and have now created a civil war in that country which is draining our resources

They have destabilized the entire middle east by invading Iraq, and have embolded Iran

They have destabilized South America due to their inept policies

and we should bring up the following issues:

They have messed up big time by with the medicare prescription drug plan
They have been involved in spying on Americans illegally, even though during the campaign they promised they wouldn't
They have been involved with Jack Abarmoff
Their administration was involved in outing a CIA agent

10. "They have destabilized South America due to their inept policies"
I think South America is coming out from under U.S. manipulation. With the CIA, NSA, Military spread too thin, I think we are seeing the return of self-determination rather than the continued infiltration and control by outside forces (USA). Income from oil doesn't hurt either.

6. I hope Rove makes the War On Terror Issue Number 1
Because there are two major areas where Bush-Rove-Chertoff have a sub failing grade.

1. Shipping, ports, railroads, marine terminals, chemical plants, petroleum refineries, tank farms. - Drive up and down the Jersey Turnpike, I-95 from Philadelphia to and through Wilmington DE, Louisiana's Cancer Coast, the Houston Ship Channel. Bhopal II - easily set off easily by a terrorist.

2. Mitigation, and Remediation - urban search and rescue, services for survivors, etc. Does Katrina ring a bell.

My avatar signifies my status as a Red Cross Volunteer (it's the new "Red Crystal") and my screen name signifies my honorable service in the United States Coast Guard.

7. If Rove intends to make war on terror an issue....
then.....(this is almost too easy) the Democrats need to make Bush's DISHONESTY about HIS war on terror the Democrats issue!

Make sure every American has heard Bush's quotes about "not caring about Bin Laden". When they ask "Are you calling the President a liar?" Say, "YOU can call him whatever YOU want.....what I am saying is that he is NOT being truthful to the American people. This is not about rhetoric, it is about honesty....Honesty is valued by ALL Americans....and the President is NOT and HAS NOT been truthful to the American people."

...NOT being truthful....NOT being truthful....(repeat the Bush's quotes and TELL HOW he was dishonest to the American people....

(Karen Hughes calls this her "echo chamber message". Well, Democrats can do that too....only better.)

repeat...repeat...repeat...

12. easy to deflate...
esp with much of the public turning against the Gulf war: "Where's Osama" Sooner or later the reality that the cost of going to Iraq included letting al qeada be, and included ignoring securing our infrastructure, is going to sink in... and seems to already be sinking in. Rove hasn't yet learned the lesson of the boy who cried wolf.
