Poll question: When Is It Important To Speak Up Against An Injustice? |
|
Do we speak out when we hear a racist or sexist "joke"?
Do we speak out against slurs directed towards gay people?
Do we speak out when we are the only one who sees the injustice, and it's not popular?
Is it more important to speak out against racism than sexism?
Is it more important to speak out against homophobia than poverty?
Is a politician exempt, and should just smile and ignore it?
Is it OK to ignore an ignorant slam against poor people because poverty just isn't an issue like homophobia or racism or sexism?

1. There is no proper line up of issues. You pick ones and work on them. |
|
And be part of something amazing. With the exception of immediate genocide.

4. What would be some of the criteria that would point to "making sense"? |

9. For those who voted for "whenever you see an injustice"... |
|
Does it make any difference if it was a former President who didn't speak up?
Does it make a difference if it was a Democrat who didn't speak up?
What would have been the reaction if there was a slur against gay people, and Clinto just smiled and let it pass?

11. No, no, and I don't know what the reaction would have been. |

I didn't see this incident, but when I read about it my guts churned. But, Clinton did pass the welform reform act and I think that when he was aware of some of the unforeseen consequences made a slight effort to change it (I think I remember hearing this in a SOTU address) but the repubbies weren't gonna have any part of it. I think he should have fought harder to change the damned thing, but he didn't.
I don't have a clue as to why he would've let such a remark go unchallenged, but he did.
