Why aren't we calling him "Little Ricky" of the "Republic Party" ?? |
|
I am sick to death of Bush and his jackass friends hewing to the linguistic playbook put together by Gingrich - the one that calls The Democratic Party "The Democrat Party". They figure it sounds less appealing, so they'll just mis-state the party name.
So why aren't we playing the same game and why aren't all of our politicians and communicators using the vaguely fascist-sounding "Republic" adjective: "Republic politicians want to take our rights away" or "that's a typical Republic tactic"? Why?
Meanwhile, the Republic Party is spending big bucks in PA to mis-state our candidates name too. I just saw an obnoxious "Bobby Casey" ad on TV, mocking Santorum's opponent for Senate for having run for other offices before (how appalling!). It ran on 3 different channels at the gym in 15 minutes. The Santorum ("latin for asshole") campaign always refers to Robert Casey, Jr. as "Bobby", although that's not what he goes by publicly.
So why aren't all the Democratic ads and PR using the diminutive "Little Ricky" or even just "Ricky" Santorum?
Why the hell don't we ever fight back? The high road is getting us nowhere.

4. I've told a few people that, and they think *I'm* sick |
|
they don't believe it, and think I must be REALLY sick for making up something that disturbing. Either that or they think I'm mocking those who miscarry, which is totally untrue. I just think having the kids pass around a dead 20-week fetus is really freaking creepy.

2. I agree with you. I'm tired of the old Newt campaign points |
|
being spewed by Santorum. They're so 1994, but Casey ignores them at his own peril. I've said it before here and I'll say it again - stop dawdling around, Bob, and get serious about this race. Now.

Bob Casey will be appearing at the Pittsburgh Labor Day Parade on Monday morning. He then will be at the annual Labor Day Celebration at Northmoreland Park, between 1:00 and 3:00, I think. I hope to get out there to see him.
There are SO MANY things Casey can hit Santorum on in his ads, and I sure hope they start running damn soon!
Of course, Lil' Ricky can afford to run ads until he is blue in the face because he is the second highest recipient in the Senate of contributions from BIG OIL.
I despise the very sight of him.

7. Santorum is repulsive, isn't he?: |
|
Hey, I'm going to try to get to Northmoreland Park on Monday. I'm supposed to be taking the kids to their dad's house for a cookout, but I wouldn't mind seeing Bob Casey.
BTW, I met Arlen Specter this week - he did a town meeting-type thing for a local chamber of commerce, and I went because I was bored and it was close to where I work. The first ten minutes were a "re-elect Santorum" pep rally, and the rest was the typical pap you'd expect. He made lame jokes about the Senate Democrats, for example, did you know that Joe Biden has a temper, and that ted Kennedy is fat? Haha - I guess that passes for Republican humor these days!

8. "Republic party" doesn't work. |
|
The whole point of calling it the "Democrat party" is to subtly draw attention to the sound of "rat". As "rat" is old mob slang for traitor or of suspect loyalty, their really trying to imply that Dems are traitors. The word "republic" doesn't have the same effect as you end up hearing "lick", which has its own connotations but no so ingrained as "rat" in our psyche.
Personally, I think we should just use "repub party" as it sound so close to "repugnant". I know many people today don't really know what the word means but they do have a negative response to it. Of course it should only be used by prominent Dems in cases where the repub has used "Democrat party" first. That way when they're called on it they can point out the purposeful slight the repub offered first.

10. Yes, name calling will win us lots of votes. |
|
You can't see me, but I'm rolling my eyes.
Part of playing the game is not getting psyched out by the trash talk. A pro doesn't respond in kind to trash talk; you're supposed to wait till they're not expecting it and then get under their skin. The point is not to vent personal animosity, but to try and throw them off their game.
It's time to think strategery.

12. Now you've got me angry. Goddammit you SHOULD be a pro |
|
This is a democracy. If you care enough to get angry, you should be (and my guess is that you probably are) involved in some way. Whether you GOTV the base or argue and persuade swingable or reluctant voters to come our way... a democracy only works when people decide they are the pros.
