We get tired of fighting the fascists that are controlling the big picture. Sometimes, it seems to be all that matters.
I'm tired from that, and have chosen to fight a "local" fight.
Another story.
Tuesday of last week, two teenage girls ran away from their foster homes. They managed to disappear until yesterday (Saturday). Two social workers from another town brought one of the girls brothers here (almost 150 miles), and got'em.
What they got was two teenage girls who had spent the last number of days smoking pot, smoking meth, and having sex with those who were providing the drugs.
I went down and talked to them, the social workers, the foster families that agreed to take them in, the brother, my supervisor, and seemingly everyone else in the world.
They have a new home - for a short time.
They are both going to a locked facility for "treatment".
They were and are, tired.
The social workers were and are, tired.
The Foster parents were are are, and will be, tired.
I'm tired.
Two teenagers out to have a "good" time have been found, and are now safe.
They are safe from the bastards that will use them and their bodies for sex in exchange for drugs.
They are not out in the world alone.
I'm tired.
What's the point of this post?
Please remember the "little" picture. The stories are all around you all the time.
Thank you for being there.

You have made a difference in the world and we have to take it one step at a time sometimes. People who make a "little" difference make all the difference in the world.

2. Don't you get tired of seeing all the fighting |
|
and the divisiveness, no matter the subject?
Don't you ever want to just hold out your hands and ask "what can I do to change this"?

Sometimes I snark, many times I make sure I respond nicely. Sometimes it is hard to not defend when attacked. Sounds like a wild time for everyone involved. I spent much time hoping for the best, hoping that my child would survive teenage years and want to be adult friends by, say, mid-20's. We shall see if the last happens.

Put all the 'little' pictures together and you have a gigantic mosaic of making an impact. My job is to see to it that 50 or so seniors get a hot meal every day. Multiplied by our other sites, we provide nearly 200,000 meals a year in our county. Does it solve the problems of the elderly? No. It's what we can do where we are.
