My 40-year GOP boyfriend registered as a democrat this week. |
|
He did vote for Gore, but, was a registered republican, because everyone he knew was a republican.
Well, his businesses are drying up and he's financially in trouble in this GOP economy and he's pissed.
So, if they've lost him, who's left? Just the radial nutcase fundies and the bigots and bankers.

He is a devout catholic and has always supported the GOP big time on the abortion issue and on fiscal responsibility. He says that they have gone crazy and the war is a disaster, he says that he is voting straight democratic. He has been a staunch republican for over 40 years.

7. Glad he switched. Hope he becomes politically involved. |

Assuming there are other republicans who can be swayed, your boyfriend is in a great position to help. Even if he never runs for office, he can help our cause in many ways. Except for the real extremists, those who haven't yet seen the light are more likely to listen to someone like him.

8. Sorry about his business problems |
|
But welcome him to the party, esp. if he's been voting with us.
My husband was an independent who voted for Raygun in 1980. Before he died, he reregistered as a dem. I still have the registration confirmation on the fridge.

11. Wow. Sorry for your loss. |

My boyfriend was a republican in name only. He's one of the most liberal people I know. He was just raised to fear the label. The fear mongering is at a new high, but it's certainly not new.
So, our new name for all the GOP who are distancing from * is Flip Flopper!
"I voted for him before I voted against him."

from GOP'ers I know. Those who have been successful in business are also hurting under the Bush economy as most of the money is only going to the uber, uber wealthy. I think people even considered millionaires aren't doing well. You apparently have to be a billionare or greater to benefit.
The stock market isn't doing well and hasn't for some time. We can't keep shipping jobs overseas and lowering wages and expect the economy to remain the same.
My friends in the Reserves (who've served already in Iraq and Afghanistan) are also sick and tired of the endless Iraq war.
These are all people who were ardently pro-Bush and pro-GOP only six months ago. I don't think they're watch much FAUX news these days, either.
Everyone says they're voting Dem this time around.

Now that has a certain ring to it, doncha think?
Sorry about your boyfriend's troubles, but it's happening to small business all over the place. These gas prices are hurting a lot and I think the numbers to small and rural business owners just haven't shown up yet.

15. Did he vote for Bush in 2004? |
|
Lot of republicans make the gesture, but when they walk into that voting booth...they tend to continue to vote repuke!
Keep with him pointing out things subtly..and expose him to liberal radio shows...Thom Hartmann is the one that cuts all republican thought into dust!
It takes time to really make a switch over...stay with it.

18. Ultimately, it has to hit them personally. |
|
GOP-bent folks tend to be exceedingly selfish and have little to no ability to see a greater good outside of their own needs. The ones that change their minds about the party, or about the sick ideology at the base of its nature, will have done so because they are getting thwacked up close and personal because of it.
That's why this is going to be so hard.

Island: We're all good, they're all bad. We can have anything we want and pollute all we want and the bill never comes due.
I knew we were on our way down a very bad rabbit hole in 2000.
