Did someone really blow his brains out on tv because of Iran-Contra
One of our friends said that a member of the Reagan government committed suicide on national television during the Iran Contra scandal. I was a little kid during this time period and don't member much. I Googled but couldn't find anything. Is my friend remembering things wrong or did this really happen?

confusing the Budd Dwyer incident, because of the general time frame. Either that, or they are thinking of the time Reagan blew his nose while being questioned about the scandal by reporters.

9. You are probably right
That seems to make sense that he would confuse the two incidences.

2. No, but I think some Louisiana somebody-or-other did over...
...corruption. That's the only thing I can thing of during that time period. Life magazine even reprinted a few stills from the suicide in one of their "Famous Photos" series of books.

3. I think I'd have remembered something like that, but I don't.
In fact, the members of the Reagan Administration pretty much got away with Iran-Contra.

4. Actually, that was probably...
PA State Treasurer R. Budd Dwyer. A Republican, but not a member of the Reagan government.

I'm from PA, that's why I remembered it.

10. That makes even more sense
That he might have confused the televised suicide in Pennsylvania with the attempted suicide of Bud McFarlane.

14. Wasn't there a cabinet member who did it during a meeting?
Or something similar? I think this is what the OP is talking about.
