Another "Dead White Bloke" lost on a beach hogs the M$M media spotlight! |
|
 I'm sorry-- couldn't resist. Poking fun at (myself) the whole (offensive meme) thing. Here is a link to Will Pitt's thoughtful "sermon" regarding the astonishing vitriol being spewed over Irwin's memory. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2047354&mesg_id=2047354Rest in Peace, Steve Irwin. You brought light and laughter to this dreary old world. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

1. Steve Irwin was a great entertainer... |
|
he was our childrens' generation Marlin Perkins. He will be missed. It sounds like his death was as quick as it was sudden, and he died doing what he loved which are both blessings, I feel very sorry for his family, but he leaves much behind to be remembered by.

2. He gave it his all. He put himself out there. He brought the world to TV |
|
like "Wild Kingdom" as you say.
Even if Mr. Irwin and that Jack Hanna on Letterman seem ditzy (part of their schtick?) they make ya laugh.
And the wildlife is COOL!

15. "Crikey!" ok how bout "over the top" "campy" "loopy" "near out of control" |
|
Both him and Hanna seem to tread that fine line........
Hanna was on NBC news talking about Irwin. He emphasized what a dedicated conservationist Steve Irwin was. Said that "working with wild animals is like handling a gun-- it could go off at any time."
These are adventurers and when they are on camera they like to keep that clownish thing going for the tension value maybe. Or else they're just whacked.
In a GOOD way of course (may he rest in peace in the Dreamtime)

3. I was in the middle of cleaning out the rat and guinea pig cages. |
|
My husband was on the computer at the time. He calls out to me, "Remember the Croc Hunter?" I said, "Yea, what about him." I was then told he had died. I was stunned as I knew he wasn't that old.
I enjoyed watching some of his shows. Yes, there are times I felt that he took too many risks. The biggest one was when held his infant son a little too close to a croc. Luckily, that croc didn't snap at the baby.
I am sorry for his family and friends. His children will have to grow up without him in their lives.

16. My answer to his question woulda been "no" |
|
I'm not surprised because everything's gotten so crazy, people are on edge and lashing out, and when you hear the news, maybe lots of people flash on all the chances he took that seemed reckless, which was his persona or his act.
Not a big step from there to Yeah, it finally happened.................
I don't know about the vitriol. Who needs it?
They're just venting randomly, maybe. The level of insanity we reached last week is off the charts. :evilfrown:

12. It Only Counts As 'Kickin It' When It Isn't Already Near The Top. |
|
Since you love endlessly kicking your threads past their value they tend to always be freshly 'kicked' anyway. So no, I'm not technically kicking a thread that already resides at the top of the page anyway. But rest assured, I always try to avoid responding to pointless threads which would kick them once they have fallen down...

Seriously. It's amusing. I always enjoy the OMC vs. OM subthreads.
You can chalk this one up as pointless, too. Because that's all I had to say.

But we still have a million croc hunter threads.
Yah, Will, I remember a DU where there would have been lots less tabloid interest.
