Mike Malloy emails BartCop!
http://www.bartcop.com/1831.htm

Subject: Malloy speaks

Hey, pal!

Thank you for all the support - which you've always given me, but especally the past couple of days.
Whew, Bart!
Kathy and I are rockin' and reelin'.
But . . . you know the old saying:
When someone hands you a lemon, toss 'em back a fuckin' hand grenade!

BOOM!

So, we're doing okay.
Got a couple of possibles in the oven, and hope to be airborne again soon.

We love you, Bart! We mean it.

Mike and Kathy Malloy

We have no right to see their books, but there's a thing here:

If AAR is making real money, but, they can make
one extra nickel by screwing Malloy, they're whores.

If they are hemorrhaging money like the Titanic
and they HAD to let Mike go because his salary was such a strain
and cutting him might allow them to make payroll next month - that's another thing.

So didn't AAR just confirm everything we've heard from Rush, Hannity and O'Reilly?
That ARR is hanging on by a thread and might not be here tomorrow?

Reminder:
When AAR was on the air just 90 days, a dozen of us pooled our
money like socialists and we bought 13 commercials to play on AAR,
remember that? I think we paid $450 each for those, and we had to
buy a dozen to get them at that price.

Soon after, I called my sales rep back and said I was interested in
another block of ads. He asked what we paid last time and I told him
$5500 for 13 commercials - and he LAUGHED. He was very clear that
we wouldn't be getting THOSE prices again - so what's the deal?

Are the suits who run AAR, ...oh, ...I don't know ...stupid?

If their sales department LAUGHS at $5500, doesn't that mean they're
rolling in cash? Their product is time - they sell it for maybe $800-$1000
a minute and they can't afford Malloy?

So - is AAR going to die?
They're either on their financial deathbeds or they got greedy, right?
Which do you think it is?

3. I just can't get my mind around it being financial
"Financial reasons" is like a version of "I want to spend more time with my family". It's convenient and saves faces all around.

I think that Mike's politics made them wince. He pulls no punches. Around here, many of us like his honesty and feel reflected by him. For a media outlet trying to appeal to some notion of a majority, he's too far out there.

I say "FEH!". He's on late night, so how many mom's have to put their hands over their children's ears? I'm a grownup, stay up late and Mike speaks my language.

6. I can't accept it. It was like it was an excuse they made up afterwards.
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 07:12 PM by Cleita
If it really had been financial, shouldn't they have been upfront with him? Shouldn't they have not given him the go ahead to announce he would be in the NYC market when they changed stations? And even if they changed their minds after that, wouldn't it have been a little more civilized to let him finish his week on Randi and give everyone some time to adjust? This whole thing just stinks to me on so many levels. I never liked the corporate way of letting people go with five minutes notice and I certainly don't consider it very liberal of them.

If it really is financial, then I want to see proof of that. I've ponied up the money to be a podcast subscriber so now that you've taken away one of the reasons why I did that .... and I am seriously inclined not to sign up again .... give me some proof!

Show me the money ...or lack thereof.

26. I remember the broadcast and the DU thread
Heck, even C-Span covered the convention all about that MIHOP topic. Perhaps it's because he took his style to Randi's time slot when he filled in. But they could have easily asked him to take it down a notch for daytime.

Maybe there's a little bit of LIHOP going on with the suits at AAR regarding Malloy.

Dead wrong, but a nice try. Enjoy your stay here at DU. Mike did no such thing. I've heard the exchange and seen the transcript. You're just pathetically wrong.

Fact is, AAR had a chance to dump Mike's salary and put Laura Flanders on his place for no money to them (she's paid by The Nation), and they made the sleazy choice in no time flat.

I ask that seriously. You seem to have absolutely no sense of sarcasm, or of the debate technique of extending someone's ludicrous argument to it's natural absurd conclusion (which is exactly what Mike Malloy was doing in that exchange). Read the damn transcript.

The only people I have ever seen who exhibit this same type of behavior have had traumatic brain injuries or schizophrenia--in either case, I will heartily apologize for calling you either a disruptor or an idiot.

He told Mike that we're fighting the Muslims to stop terrorism. Mike responded with a "Izzat so?" and asked him why he wasn't blowing away Muslims in Jersey. The silence was deafening.

22. republican standards
even in jest, MM's comments were wrong. we should be held to a higher standard. those name calling actions hail from republicanville and we should not be emulating them. no matter what the provocation, it was wrong and it was not funny and AAR was right to punish him with termination. if we don't hold our own to higher standards then we might as well be republicans too. that's par for the course for them ... but it shouldn't be for us.

29. Lookit
Figure it out: Mike was purged for money, not for being mean to a bigoted wingnut. Laura Flanders was given Mike's slot because AAR didn't have to pay her and they did have to pay Mike.

No matter how desperately you try to create a tempest in a teapot over this "appalling" unwillingness of Mike's to let bigotry go unanswered, it doesn't wash. It's not the reason he was purged. Even he acknowledges the real reason.

You are, of course, welcome to keep trying. Someone may eventually believe you. Probably some "moderate."

35. get over it
mike knows the game and is playing it the only way it can be played, FOR KEEPS.

if you wish to hold yourself to polished high standard beyond reproach, then american politic ain't the game for you, I suggest badminton.

the road to hell is paved with good intention, and mike, like many of us sees that road being laid straight to hell.

if I were so dedicated to bring my baby daughter, my wife and a loaded gun to protect my family and myself just to be able to do my job, I would probably get sick of idiots and fools and challenge them to the max myself, just as mike did.

Higher Standards? easy, tell the truth.

Name Calling Actions? would a rose by any other name...

Emulating Them? mike is too original to copy others.

No Matter What The Provocation? halliburton concentration camps anyone?

It was Wrong? to challenge a caller on their stated convictions, no way.

It Was Not Funny. it wasn't meant to be.

40. If That's The Case Then
Why doesn't AAR SAY this is why instead of making up some phony reason that they are trying to save money?

I heard it too and it was clear as a bell that Mike was NOT "directing" anyone to do anything but merely pointing out to this nutcase what a serial killer he was by forcing this guy to be bringing it closer to home ~ like in NJ instead of some far off place like Iraq. Mike has said on many occasions, he does not think it is right to go around killing people and cramming your religion down everybody else's throat. Christians. Hindus. Jews. Muslims. ANYONE who insists that everybody else has to believe and live exactly same way they do ~ so it gives them some ticket to go and murder everyone in sight.

As a Christian myself, I agree with Mike 100%. Religious wingnuts of every faith are all a blight on this planet, starting with my own religion who has done plenty to make life miserable for others. I do not want to kill them ~ but I LOVED hearing MIke give them a taste of their own medicine. I would LOVE to ask some wingnut from my own religion the same question. And then RECORD it so I could broadcast it everywhere. Wingnuts of any ilk deserve to get embarrassed by thier own poisen.

Maybe it is "appalling" to centrists to speak like wingnuts do, but these nutcases won't learn anyway. To be faced with the same crap back wingnuts like to spew, is what they should hear. It was therapy to hear Mike give it back for once. It should have been given back years ago with these people. Sometimes when you bite back and bite back HARD they get the picture and stop biting, you know? And even if they don't get the picture it is therapy for the soul to force them to listen to what they sound like and take responsibility for what they foment.

And IMO I would say if this was the case with Malloy that AAR didn't like what he said and took it WAY out of context, then why didn't AAR get all moral and SAY that, like the bosses did with Howard Stern? Because they know what Mike meant and who he is and they know that they would look like moralistic fools if they did. Who would be applauding such a thing? Nobody but a few "centrist" idiots who still think bending over and pretending they are reasonable is the way for Republicans wingnuts like the caller was. Centrists who think we should all shuck and jive while allowing these people to give it to us good. Centrists who still insist on the insane when it never changes anything to say, "Oh golly gee, my goodness, no!" while getting raped, that's who.

To be honest I am SICK of people being shocked, SHOCKED just because someone from "our side" gets radical. As the centrists should know by now none of their "cooperation" has worked for the past 30 years. It is the radicals who actually create change, not some namby-pamby centrist who is afraid of their own shadow. So it is about time!

42. IF that's the case (and all this is speculation) then the "centrists" at
AAR might not even be at fault — something Malloy said could have ticked off the FCC, and AAR is faced with a large fine or possible loss of their license.

But again, this is mere speculation and no one has any proof of anything.

not going for a cheap laugh?

You're turning something into its exact opposite and creating not merely a false impression of Mike, but one in diametrical opposition to who he is and what he stands for.

If anything, Mike was fired for taking the deaths of innocents too seriously (Muslim deaths included).
