I'm watching Katie tonight
Look I stopped watching the Today Show over a year ago after it got to be so blatantly biased that it wasn't even worth watching for the cringe factor anymore but I am willing to give Katie another shot. Hell there has to be SOME network operation worth watching....doesn't there?

1. I admit that I am a little curious.
I will probably watch, too. My expectations are very low. But we won't know for sure what her show is like until we actually see it.

3. Uh, not when it pretends to be news, it isn't.
I'm mildly curious, but if there's an old movie on or if my hair needs washing or my toenails trimming, I'll give it a miss.

The only time I turn the set on during the propaganda hour is for local weather. That and the sports scores are the only things with a chance of being right.

5. Brave one,
please report for those of us who cannot stomach the thought of Katie doing "news". Can't do it, won't do it.

Too many years of watching CBS go from great to Katie.

8. Her promos are laughable at times.
"I'll be the one asking the questions, then we'll all get to hear the answers together."

16. Look how hard hitting she was in this interview:
COURIC: You use images of Iraq before the invasion. And if I recall, you have pictures of, film of children playing in playgrounds. You sort of hear the sounds of children laughing.
MOORE: Yeah.

COURIC: You have people eating in outdoor cafes. But even people, Michael, who are vehemently opposed to the war would tell you Saddam Hussein was a tyrannical despot—

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: who killed people—

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: for absolutely no reason.

MOORE: That’s correct.

COURIC: A murderer.

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: And wouldn’t your movie have been better balanced if you had at least included some about Saddam Hussein’s own reputation?

MOORE: You guys did such a good job of telling us how tyrannical and horrible he was. You already did that. What—the question really should be posed to NBC News and all of the other news agencies: Why didn’t you show us that the people that we’re going to bomb in a few days are these people, human beings who are living normal lives, kids flying kites, people just trying to get by in their daily existence? And as the New York Times pointed out last week, out of the 50 air strikes in those initial days, the—we were zero for 50 hitting the target. We killed civilians and we don’t know how many thousands of civilians that we killed. And nobody covered that. And so for two hours, I’m going to cover it. I’m going to—out of four years of all of this propaganda, I’m going to give you two hours that says here’s the other side of the story.

Wow what a journalist! (kidding)

And CBS should be great for her career -- just look what it did for Bryant Gumbel. :sarcasm:

18. It's all about the money; fame and fortune. She should just admit that.
I wouldn't watch Katie "Navy Seals Rock" Couric even if her "news" program were the only game in town.

6. I love a good train wreck. She was on our local Boston affiliate
doing her promo tour. She was asked what she hopes to bring to the newscast. She listed about five things two of which were: 1.I want difficult issues discussed in manner that everyone can understand and 2. and I want people to come away with an optimistic view of the world. So we are all idiot naysayers. I hope her the best. That's being optimistic.

7. I'm just wondering what her new personna will be
Will she be serious and conserved or will she be the grinning, gum-chewing 50-something teenybopper she tried to portray on the morning show at times?

Somehow, Katie doing the evening news just doesn't seem like a good fit, other than boosting CBS's ratings temporarily by having so many people just like us watching her to see how she'll do...only out of curiosity.

10. BBC
The only network news I've been able to stomach for years.

I haven't watched CBS since Cronkite retired and I'm not about to start now.

11. I think I'll skip this experiment. CBS is one step away from topless
news with nubile anchors.

That I may give a look-see; but, as with Katie, I won't be expecting to get the news.

CBS must like the Today Show format. Too bad the news or lack thereof is news.

14. With Rush Limbaugh as a "guest"
I don't think she's gotten over her bias problem. And did you hear about her six-city "listening tour" to find out what kind of news "the people" want? That's not encouraging, either.

15. I owe it to Dan to see what they have went to.
I also want to see if they are going to display her legs ala the Leno show when they modified the desk, just for her.
snip>
On May 12, 2003, Couric guest hosted the late night television show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and gathered 42% more viewers than on normal nights. CNN <5> and the New York Daily News noted that instead of using Leno's regular solid desk, "workers cut away the front of her desk to expose her legs while she interviewed American Idol judge Simon Cowell and Austin Powers star Mike Myers."

her news delivered with gravitas. I think I'd rather throw up than watch.
