Tony Snow: some in the Democratic Party say we shouldn't question al Qaeda

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003087485

<snip>

"There have been some in the Democratic Party who have argued against the Patriot Act, against the terror surveillance program, against Guantanamo. In other words, there are some people who say that we shouldn't fight the war, we should not detain -- we shouldn't apprehend al Qaeda, we shouldn't detain al Qaeda, we shouldn't question al Qaeda, and we shouldn't listen to al Qaeda. In other words, they're all for winning the war on terror, but they're all against -- they're against providing the tools for winning that war.

"And we think it's a perfect opportunity for Democratic leaders to say, no, we are serious about winning the war. We have now reiterated some of the basic precepts of administration policy and also the policy put together by generals over the months of the engagement in Iraq. And we look forward to working with members of Congress to figure out how best to prevent terrorists from coming here, but, more importantly, how to defeat terrorism. "

These are all classic "Fox Lies" devices for obfuscation and deception. Rhetorical. Nebulous. Fuzzy propaganda speak.

These people are such liars.

6. OK, let's have you name one, Tony. I've never heard anybody come
close to saying that about al-Qaeda...have heard lots of comments against the Patriot Act and the Bush administration trampling on our Consitution and Bill of Rights.... heard a lot of comments about how Bush&co. have blown any chance of winning in Iraq.

9. Non sequitur alert
How does opposing the hideously misnamed USA PATRIOT Act translate into arguing that we shouldn't try to apprehend, question or tap suspects?

I'm sure the bulldogs of the press descended on Mr. Snow like the rabid pack they are. I'm sure of it, aren't I? Bulldogs? Rabid? Tough, street-wise, ink-stained wretches? Right?

11. False reasoning. I don't like torture so I like al Qaeda?
I don't like dropping bombs on Iraqi families so I like al Qaeda?
I don't like the government taping my phone calls so I like al Qaeda?

A does not equal B.

NO ONE is saying we should just roll over and not do anything! What we are saying is that we don't have to become a McFascist state to do it! Why do you want to take our rights away, Snow?

14. Some Republicans say that the terrorists are stronger than our
Constitution. And we can't beat the terrorists unless we discard the Constitution. Some Republicans say that they are so afraid of the terrorists, who hate us for our freedoms, that they want to do away with our freedoms so that the terrorists won't hurt us. In other words, they want to give in to the terrorists so that they won't be hurt. Democrats say that we should not give in to the terroristrs...

19. The difference between Snow and previous bu$h Press Secretaries:
Snow will quickly open mouth and insert foot. The other idiots just sputtered "no comment" or something similar.

This guy is so good at making shit up on the fly that he forgets what is fact and what is fiction.

20. Tony really underestimates us
He thinks we're, for instance, against torture in all situations. Well, Tony, why don't we tie you to this chair here and I'll go get the pliers, the etching acid, the boiling lead, and the super-sized catheter, and let's just test that hypothesis, you treasonous bastard.

25. Wolf Blitzer asked Snow...
about his comment that Bush Sr's withdrawal from the first Iraq war made the enemy think the USA was soft. Snow replied (paraphrasing), "I really blew it in that statement. That was not right. What I meant to say was..."

(At this point I thought, "He's going to say it's Clinton's fault.")

"...that our withdrawal from Somalia encouraged the terrorists."

BWAHAHA! Gawd, they're so predictable.
