ABC 9-11 Docudrama vs. Reagan Biopic -- This is a test for our side |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 03:39 PM by Armstead
Remember the controversy over the Reagan television biography a few years ago. The right wing objected to it as a biased fiction, and dug in and sank their teeth into the legs of the Media Machine. Conservative politicians likewise threatened all kinds of possible reprisals against "liberal" CBS for planning to show it.
They SUCCESSFULLY managed to get it characterized as a bunch of bull, created the meme that it was a piece of junk and pressured CBS to take it off and consign it to Showtime.
We should be able to raise a similar ruckus about a "docudrama" that appears to have been written by a conservative, criticized as false by someone in the know like Richard Clark -- AND which deals with a still-fresh national trauma.
Even if we can't force ABC to pull it and stick it onto some cable channel in disgrace (which still should be a goal) we and the people on our side with the microphones should at least be able to taint its image and make the public realize what it is.
Imagine if Oliver Stone were to make a movie of the 9-11 report as a left wing hatchet job that bludgeoned the truth from the oopposite direction. Picture how the right wing would respond.

But we in a general sense ought to learn how the otehr side was successful in a similar situation, and apply those lessons collectively.
Maybe send an e-mail to your Democratic Congresspeople, for starters, to get them to take a stand on this.

7. call your LOCAL ABC affiliate as well as the national |
|
Email local as well as national.
Don't know if it will help but they have already lost all advertisers for this show, might as well make it as uncomfortable for them as possible. Perhaps people should watch and write rebuttals to the show as LTTE in their newspapers?

2. Is anyone coordinating an email campaign? That's the best way |
|
to get them to notice. If they got a million emails, they might edit the piece of shit, anyway...

I am extremely concerned by reports about your upcoming 9/11 "mockudrama". In specific I have read that Berger and members of the 9/11 commission have stated key portions of the movie are blatant distortions to outright fabrications. Is ABC planning on having Berger, or Clinton offer a rebuttal after the showing of this "mockudrama"? The history of events leading up to 9/11 is far too important to allow a sloppy "entertainment" based - not reality based - story dirty the waters.

5. I won't hold my breath! |

I emailed and left a comment on their blog. The fact is, there is a complete double standard of how corporate media treat the left and how they treat the right. This will be a textbook case.

8. But they all have to kiss the butt of politicians... |
|
...and if the Democrats look ripe to take over at least one house of Congress, the corporate media will have to take the Dem politici8ans more seriously....But that also means the politic8ians have to do some agitating about the distortions too.

9. Kick -- It is moving towards that critical mass |
|
The idea is that this should be a major controversy in the larger media stew -- not just something in the hair of those of us already pre-disposed to care.
That may be starting to happen.
