Justice Kennedy undergoes heart surgery today!
Dear God, we cannot afford to lose another Supreme Court member while BushCo is still in office.

This is breaking now on MSNBC.

Apparently he had a similar operation last fall.

3. I will freak out if anything happens to one more justice.
And I would have to revolt. No way they would be able to select another fundie for the Supreme Court. Civil War before that happens.

6. Very scary. And they said he had a similar procedure last year
but it was never publicly revealed.

11. I agree.
And yet the 80th thread on Katie Couric is being recommended. Maybe we deserve what we get.

16. It is very sad.
Stuff like that makes me think it might be time for a break from DU. Been on here for years, but I do think something has changed here. I mean, Katie Couric bullshit threads belong in the Lounge. And don't get me wrong, I like and frequent the lounge, but those threads just don't belong here.

10. I'll pray he is OK. But this makes this year's election even ...
more crucial. Another Alito/Scalia/Thomas on the court for 30 years or so is unimaginable.

18. We'd have to take the Senate to be able to stop a vile replacement
I've seen quite a few predictions that the Dems will take control of the House but I don't think there's much chance of taking over the Senate.

If the GOP retains control of the Senate, the any Supreme Court appointments by Dubya will still sail through.

19. Then, we need to be shouting this from the rooftops.
This is an all out battle for our democracy and the unity of our country.

I would fight like a mofo if that were the case.

15. If this is a stent replacement, then Kennedy should be fine. Some
times restenosis sets in, apparently, especially the newer medicated stents.

My husband had a stent replacement (just before the medicated stents were available) about five years ago. He spent five days in the hospital before the stent placement (a bed could not be found in a hospital that did the procedure until his insurance benefits ran out... ah uh... I mean until he nearly had a heart attack while lying in the hospital bed doing nothing), but was home the day after the procedure and back to working over time less than a week later.

17. remember how old he is. Older people have a hard time recovering
from general anestesia, let alone heart surgery. I hope he is OK at least until November.

20. Whether you usually pray or not, you need to say one for this
Justice. I know it's a very self serving request, but "Please God, don't let Shrub nominate any more Supreme Court Justices"!!!!!

I know, when I heard this on CNN earlier, my heart dropped to the floor!

To make matters worse, my damn internet wasn't working AGAIN and I couldn't even come here to DU a find some friends to commiserate with!
