Gore: We have to solve global warming
Gore: We have to solve global warming
POSTED: 1:11 p.m. EDT, September 5, 2006

HELSINKI, Finland (Reuters) -- Former Vice President Al Gore said on Tuesday that reducing drastically the amount of greenhouse gas emissions was vital for the future of the planet.

"Unless we stop dumping 70 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every 24 hours, which we are doing right now ... the continued acceleration of this pollution would destroy the future of human civilization," Gore said in a news conference in Finland's capital Helsinki.

It is possible to reverse global warming, he said, adding that politics can seem to change very slowly, but it can also cross a tipping point and adapt a new pattern and change rapidly.

..................

"We have to solve it (global warming) and there are some people who urge adaptation instead of prevention, and that formulation must be rejected."

1. Donning flamesuit...
He's right. So, find more responsible ways to travel (or choose to not do so), and rethink your diet if you eat meat. That's two immediate things we can all do.

Have at it...

2. switch to CF bulbs. Just buy one every time you need to change a bulb.
What that means is that if every one of 110 million American households bought just one ice-cream-cone bulb, took it home, and screwed it in the place of an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people.

Consider an energy audit.

See if your local utility allows you to buy green power. (your
monthly will go to support the growth of renewables)

Sell the gas guzzler and get a more efficient car.
(08 Prius rumored to get 90+ per gallon...)

Consider tankless water heating. Save 50 percent on water heating.

Staggering amount of low hanging fruit for energy savings.

3. I Wish He Were Back Here Helping With Congressional Campaigns
His support would certainly be welcome in some enlightened circles.
