Calderon declared Mexico's president-elect
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 09:29 PM by Bluebear
MEXICO CITY - Felipe Calderon was declared president-elect Tuesday after two months of uncertainty, but his ability to rule effectively remained in doubt with rival Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador vowing to lead a parallel leftist government from the streets.

The unanimous decision by the Federal Electoral Tribunal rejected allegations of systematic fraud and awarded Calderon the presidency by 233,831 votes out of 41.6 million cast in the July 2 elections — a margin of 0.56 percent. The ruling cannot be appealed.

1. This will get out of control
and I think that Calderon may eventually make an exodus to the north. But things could get very ugly before and after.

Really, Mexico is not all that stable. And if things get really bad, I expect buses to roll back to the border with lots of undocumented aliens heading back across to support families and reform in Mexico.

Something like this happened in Kansas in the 1850s. They call that period 'bleeding Kansas' for good reason.

Mexico is what Bush wants America to be, so I imagine we will interfere with their domestic problems. And when we do, we will get our asses kicked. Bush is poised to give us our very own Chechnya.

2. I'm surfing the Mexican news programs
The other parties, except AMLO/PRD, have accepted the decision. The European Union observers have accepted the decision. They just read off the list of other countries that have recognized the decision. They just interviewed a couple of former members of the electoral commission, who said that this current membership applied consistently---and the emphasis was on the word "consistently"----the standards used in all previous disputed votes for whatever party---the PRI or whatever. That whatever valid fraudulent findings there were were not in numbers, by far, to change the outcome.

The other parties are lined up in accepting the decision, therefore way outnumbering AMLO's hardcore supporters. I don't know how their camp-out in the Zocalo, huge main square, is going to be decamped peacefully. This is the site where their Independence Day ceremonies are due on 9-15, with the president giving the yell/grito. And the next site is the inauguration on 12-(1?).

The contacts I know in Mexico are employed, not of the Super-Rich, a sliver of what middle class there is, and they are uniformly PAN. Many posts here have suggested that AMLO "represents Mexico" or "50%". That is just not correct. And those suggesting that Shrub is going to make it Chechnya(sp) are not correct. Shrub couldn't even get FOX to participate in his pitiful coalition-of-the-willing. Mexico values its sovereignty, and therefore that of other countries, because it's been violated (by guess-who) so much-----except, that is, that sovereignty it's sold to China.
