Has Scholastic backed off "The Path to 9/11"?
Google-ing for "scholastic" "path" "911" turns up Scholastic's entry about it's "discussion guide" for ABC's propudrama "The Path to 911":

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=scholastic+path+911&btnG=Google+Search

but clicking on the link gets "No Results Found" at Scholastic's search page. Searches of the site can't find anything on TPT911.

But the cached page is still visible:
http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:OiHYHaLGwNkJ:content.scholastic.com/browse/lessonplan.jsp%3Fid%3D415+scholastic+path+911&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1

Dear Teachers,

The tragic events of September 11, 2001, challenged the core of our humanity. The impact was felt across the world.

Americans have only begun to comprehend the national and global implications of 9/11. As a global community we try to make sense of what happened and why, and how it could have occurred. We rely on eyewitness accounts, the media, and personal dialogue for answers.

On the fifth anniversary of 9/11, The Path to 9/11 (an ABC miniseries that details the historical events leading up to 9/11, beginning with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) will air as a nationwide broadcast. This dramatization of events is based on The 9/11 Commission Report, published in July 2004. Created by Congress and President Bush, the 9/11 Commission was a bipartisan group charged with providing an account of the events surrounding 9/11 and recommendations for preventing future attacks.

The Path to 9/11 offers your students and their families important information regarding the causes of and events leading to that tragic day. Encourage your students and their families to watch The Path to 9/11 and use the accompanying Resources and Discussion Guide pages to:

*Track the historical time line of events before, during, and after 9/11
*Lead critical discussions about these events
*Use critical-thinking skills and analysis in classroom debate

It is important to look back over the past five years and consider the events that have occurred, what led to those events, and how they impact the future of our nation and the world.

So what's up with the vanishing act?

3. They're lying low... keeping their heads down..
hoping the spotlight of truth and accountability doesn't shine in their filthy cave... I believe they'll very quietly distribute it to the schools when they think no one is watching...

7. " details the historical events"
okay, that is bogus. It details no such thing.

Scholastic should be ashamed of themselves. :grr:

8. i would hope they are taking this seriously. a lot of parents calling
them on teaching our children lies is pretty heavy duty for this company who has had a good reputation in the past. it is serious stuff. and i know in the four letters i have sent, progressively getting worse in information i have acquired, i am in no way going to allow an academic environment teach my children lies.

12. What do ya know
I had the page up from this afternoon, just copied and pasted it into a blank page and it's gone.

I think people called, I emailed and sent the link and contact information to NYSUT but it was after hours so I doubt that they could have called them already.

The distribution to schools is worse than airing the miniseries. It just sounds like it's training little Young Republican brown shirts, it's indoctrinating children.

17. Scarboro had something on
I think it was the study guide. If that was it it was less offensive than I had imagined. The exact details escape me at the moment, but I recall thinking "that's what all the hubub is about?" Scarboro made it seem like there were about two offensive sentences, and it wasn't in the context of trying to minimize the criticism of the guide. it was sort of like "Oh and there is this conroversy too". Maybe there's more to it.

23. "Classroom discussion and debate topics:"
1. What happened at the meeting between FBI counterterrorism expert John O'Neill, and the U.S Ambassador in Yemen? Why was the ambassador unwilling to help O'Neill and his team?

3. Why didn't the United States provide assistance to General Massoud of the Northern Alliance to fight the Taliban? Why did U.S. officials ignore General Massoud's warnings that Bin Laden might strike?

And there's a debate question, essentially, "Knowing what you know now, do you think the attacks on 9/11 could have been prevented?"

http://content.scholastic.com/content/collateral_resources/pdf/a/ABC_pdf_4.pdf

Then there's a discusson of the media on another one:

http://content.scholastic.com/content/collateral_resources/pdf/a/ABC_pdf_5.pdf

"Which medium do you think was the most truthful? Which was the least honest?"

I guess it's a good thing to teach media objectivity, but I'm getting the vibe like those ebay phishing emails that say "Do not give out your password! Click the link below to update your information!"

31. I emailed Scholastic yesterday and pointed to
a couple of inaccuracies (lies) in the film and asked why an educational book provider would be in the business of teaching children lies.

I told them that my son would, in no way, shape or form, be allowed to participate in their "lesson plan" if foisted on him at his local school.

I also told them that I felt it was a shame that they were promoting a one-sided docudrama that did not provide a well-rounded (read politically well-rounded) and factual version of the events of that day.

Maybe others wrote as well?
