Regarding the attack on the reporter (on KO)
Do you think it is okay for (investigative) reporters to follow people around and stick cameras in their faces on their property even AFTER they are told to stop?

10. Fox News no less
I wish they would investigate this President and administration with the same fervor they went after these people.
Granted, they were wrong, but on a bad day and someone sticking shit in my face...not sure how I would react either.

12. I had the pleasure of watching this on Hannity and colmes.
Besides the fantasies I had of me doing that to Hannity, It was fun to watch hannity get his panties in a bunch over a little violence. Big tough rethug getting a case of the vapors over a little ass-kicking.

Disclaimer: I know, I know violence never settled anything but just once I would like to......never mind.

9. Left where? The public right of way?
I almost agree with you. Believe me - part of me wanted to see Stone Phillips get whacked in the face during those pedophile stories - he was enjoying himself WAY TOO much.

That said, the people seemed to be real scum. Apparently stealing identities to buy real-estate.

11. No doubt they were scumbags
But after being asked to leave, and after the lady started throwing water and stuff, you would think they would have realized it was going to escalate poorly. In fact, one has to wonder if they didn't provoke it to do so.

.....judgement - bring more muscle. BTW, the big guy that bailed the reporter's ass was the subject of his interview - not part of the crew. Lucky him.

Ok. I shouldn't watch fox but Greta Vanwhatshername just interviewed the bruised and reduced reporter. At the end of the interview, she was throwing one liners about ducking and maybe taking up weather broadcasting as a safer career. He wasn't on the same page as her because he got choked-up - almost cried.

seek damages from someone after their loved-one has been beaten/killed after they stuck a camera in someone's face on their property even AFTER they were told to stop?

Actions have consequences.

For both parties.

14. No. If I'm on my own property and I've asked someone to stop
an activity, or to leave, I expect them to do so.

Trespassing irks me, and it's against the law.

So is assault, though.

16. Trespassing is a minor offence
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 10:43 PM by Sonnabend
Assault with intent to do grevious bodily harm is a felony.

The police could have been called to deal with the issue, and would have asked the reporter to leave the property and no one would have been hurt. The moment the guy raised his fist and assaulted the reporter, whatever justification he had went right out the window.

And btw, no one "deserves" to be beaten like that, whether he works for Fox News or elsewhere...if you excuse that, then you believe that assaulting the press is to be condoned...and if the threat of assault or harm deters the press, then the First Amendment(freedom of speech) and freedom of the press is at risk.

Whether you agree with this fact or not, they are entitled to the same protection of the law.

He did NOT "have it coming".

17. You're putting words in my mouth.
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 10:48 PM by mcscajun
I never said anyone deserved to be beaten, I excuse nothing, and I agree the reporter has (and is entitled to) the protection of the law. I did not compare trespassing to assault (except to note that both are against the law, which they are.) Nobody "had it coming", and I didn't say that.

All I did was answer this question: "Do you think it is okay for (investigative) reporters to follow people around and stick cameras in their faces on their property even AFTER they are told to stop?"

And it's not.

That's all.

Anything else you thought I said is in your own mind, not in my words.
