-----

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have a son in Elementary School. He's an impressionable second grader but he loves to read. So we follow a tradition started when I was a kid about 20 years back and in the RIF program and we buy books regularly from Scholastic. Whether it's through the book fair or through the flyers teachers send home my Son loves getting books from you and I love ordering them. It reminds me of my youth and I am happy to help support my son's advancement in reading.

Then I found out that you are helping distribute "teaching materials" about this Path to 9/11 movie. Teaching is right. We are teaching our children that lies are acceptable. That ignorance to the facts is bliss. That propaganda is okay and that neo conservatism and endless war is the path to righteousness.

That might seem like a steep assessment but consider what you are distributing to schools. This movie was created by a right wing conservative who sent this out only to conservative hate mongers like Rush Limbaugh to spin it into positive press. The movie is fictitious when it creates meetings and situations that never existed, blames Clinton for the entire situation and gives Bush a pass on everything. The purpose? To propagandize the public into seeing Bush as some sort of hero and villanize the Democrat.

Facts prove this not to be true.

Clinton tried to pass anti-terror legislation and spending in a 1996 omnibus bill that Republicans still in office today shot down and called into question as illegitimate.

Clinton went after Bin Laden and was accused of "wag the dog" tactics because they said he was covering the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Clinton held weekly terrorism meetings and briefed the incoming Bush Administration as to how grave the threat was.

Bush received a briefing on 8/6/01 that stated how, who and where an attack would happen and Bush blew it off.

Bush went out and declared that he didn't think much about Osama Bin Laden and then while calling opponents to a completely unrelated war Nazi Appeasers who help the terrorists, agreed with the Pakistani Government on amnesty for Bin Laden.

That last report came from ABC so the credibility should be equal to the materials you are about to distribute.

In closing, I cannot allow my son to be propagandized by material that is factually incorrect and is trying to create a false icon while demonizing a President who had little to do with the most terrible attack in our nation's history.

If you distribute this I will pull my son from school and begin a protest at that school. Other parents will join me. After all pretty close to 70% of America agrees with me and we are tired of being lied to. We certainly won't allow our children to be lied to.

I remember the years of Scholastic book fairs and flyers and all the purchases I have made with a nostalgic fondness that drives my dollars back your way to this day.

Please do the decent thing, the right thing to do and do not distribute this to our schools. Our teachers and our children deserve better.

Sincerely,
Robert Poole, Jr.
Milwaukee, WI

9. That's a good idea...
LTTE's can't hurt at all. I think this is a three pronged attack... ABC, Scholastic and the media. Unfortunately ABC removed advertisers from this as to alleviate pressure that could be placed on them so that is out of the question.

10. My daughter and I got into a yelling match yesterday about this damn
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 08:19 AM by Democrat 4 Ever
show. Her husband and her listen to Lush Limpballs, O'Lielly, and the whole crew so if they hear it there than it is the gospel.

I started pointing out the mistakes in the show and the people who helped write the 9/11 report have gone on record saying it was wrong. She just dismissed it all as silly Democrats who are trying to hide the truth. I told her it was full of lies and she just kept saying that it is a "pissing match" between the parties. Wouldn't talk about the points I raised about anything, just kept saying its a pissing match and each side had their point of view and the Dems didn't mind lying to keep people from seeing this program. Everything she said came straight from the mouths of Faux news. I got so angry that I ended up telling her that when she wanted to have an adult conversation about the merits of this program call me but until she was loaded with more information than just what the neocons liars are putting out don't bother me. I then hung up on her!

This isn't like my family, we can disagree but we don't yell and hang up on each other. The worst part? I don't regret my yelling at her and hanging up. I find myself more than tired of trying to be reasonable and logical with the Kool Aid drinkers. They can't handle facts, reason, logic, common sense or rational thinking to discuss anything so they just pretend it doesn't exist. Right now I'm not ready to make nice with her - this kind of propaganda is just too sleazy to let it pass without an attempt to just pretend it is nothing more than a "pissing match" between people who just disagree.

That said, I love my girl, I even love her card carrying, Kool Aid drinking, liberal hating husband. I just wish they would both get their heads out of their asses, they are expecting their first child in February and I hate to see another generation raise in this BS.

Good letter but I honestly feel like we are pissing in the wind. ABC, the neocons, the repugs don't care about the truth. They have widely distributed this program to the neocons. They have been ramping up the BS on this show for weeks, they have got the sheeple primed and ready to accept this and they will, without questioning, accept it as truth. This is just a propaganda program that is on par with Nazi Germany's vilifying a whole segment of their society in the 1930s. We out number these asswipes but they control the airwaves, the Congress, the White House and the Supreme Court - power is more important than truth - and I'm afraid they are going to win again. After all, there is still 43% of Americans that think Iraq had something to do with 9/11.

13. Don't feel too bad...
Many of us have had to remove ourselves from the company of brothers, sisters, etcetera due to their insistance that FAUX and the pigs in the administration have valid points of view.

The time has come that we must scream "TRIPE!" when tripe is served, no matter who is the cook.

14. This is less about close minded adults as it is about impressionable kids
The reason this fight is so important is they are spreading this propaganda to our children trying to brainwash them at an early age. I do not want my son growing up to be some Fundie NeoCon because the school system taught him that their way is the only way to morally live your life.

We face a time already where students believe that Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press go to far and that the Government should be able to approve what news goes out (Per this study: http://www.knightfdn.org/default.asp?story=news_at_knight/releases/2005/2005_01_31_firstamend.html).

The only way to protect our children is to fight back and fight back hard. This is just one of the letters I have written. I also wrote to ABC personally and signed two letter petitions. It will not end there. Today I am writing a LTTE and sending out chainmails to get others involved in this fight.

I consider this the most important fight we've had yet. It's one thing to propgandize adults because only mindless sheep will fall for it. But when you enter impressionable children who go to school to learn the truth and then are taught that Bush, Republicans, War = Good and Clinton, Democrats, Peace = Bad we will face an entirely larger problem when this wave of kids grow up and push the fundie movement further than ever before. We need to educate our children correctly and teach them the truth.

These learning materials implicate every Middle Eastern country with 9/11 except Saudi Arabia. They want our children to grow up hating the entire region to further their wars and takeover efforts there.

It is our duty as parents and citizens to do whatever we can to stop them.

15. Exactly, its the kids who soak this BS up because they don't have
the critical skills to separate the BS from the truth. And if they have parents who accept the BS as truth you have a double whammy.

The only hope I have is that my daughter will revert back to her upbringing once the baby is born. She was raised with the idea that all people are equal, that government should always be questioned, etc. Since she has hooked up with this guy and his family she has taken a 180º turn away from the ideals presented when she was young. I'm not proud to admit this of one of my kids but she made me promise to never let her in-laws know that she once dated an African American guy (and was engaged) for five years before breaking up and meeting her future husband.) They would think MUCH less of her if they knew so she has to hide her past. THAT is what drives me crazy - my grandchild will be exposed to such nonsense.

Children are our future sounds trite in a song but it is the truth. And KKKarl & Co. is doing everything in their power to get the next generation into little brown uniforms and ratting out their parents.

16. I'm very sorry to hear this...
...of your argument with your daughter. Politics and party lines seemed to have become so divisive in recent years. I hate to hear that your family is split over this. At the same time, you are entitled to be heard and have your opinion and beliefs respected--even if they happen to disagree with you.

Too bad that during the argument you didn't remind her of the right wingers that got the reagan miniseries pulled from CBS...seems to me there was probably some stuff in that she and her husband would have found offensive. Wonder if she thinks that was fair?

Either way, my heart goes out to you. I know it can be lonely being the only sane one in a family.
I was punished by my father when I was as a little girl, for speaking against the republican president of the time. I guess it was clear early on I was not going to be an apple from his tree. ;)

12. Here is mine...
Customer Service,
I have three school-aged children and I have purchased hundreds of your books from the flyers sent home from school and at book fairs over the years.

I am extremely disappointed that Scholastic has chosen to associate with a factually inaccurate "docudrama" that is being presented to the public - and the school system - as a way to teach our children history. If this were a documentary, I could see it being presented for classroom discussion, but several key characters in the mini-series have come forward and called this work "pure fiction."

I won't be ordering books from Scholastic anymore - I am sorry you got involved in this mess, but you are.

Sincerely,
FlDem5
Tampa, Florida
