Email fight over 'candles for heroes'
This was posted at a list I frequent and I did not respond...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2038175

The same person posted again about this 'candles for heroes' bullshit and I emailed her. I explained there was no need to repost a second time and that I thought it was an inappropriate place considering that off topics are not allowed.

She wrote this:

Sorry if that post offended you, I must have forgot to have put OT, as I HAVE done so in the past...and seeings how I have seen MANY people post 'OT' things, I think that I am free to post them as well...Candles has NOTHING to do with politics, and EVERYTHING to do with a mom needing support as her son prepares to leave this country to fight for the freedoms we all enjoy..ie...free speech, like you are utilizing right now, and I am too...if you want EVERYONE to STOP posting OT things then perhaps you need to address them all, or else leave it alone, and let the post pass without spiteful comments. So many times, I have seen off topic items, and I just choose to either delete them, or read them and let them go, no need to hurt feelings or email others to tell them whether I approve of their topic' or not. Candles is about a lighting vigil in memories of the victims of 9-11 as well as our soldiers that serve our country, something I am sure you have never done, but just so you know, many have served and died to afford you the privileges that you are exercising right now. I will refrain from posting on this site in the future, but you need to let me know what site you saw it on, it is on many and so far, you are the only one to complain...

BTW, it has already been covered nationally on the news as a tribute to 9/11 victims...and a tribute to those who are brave and selfless enough to sacrifice their lives and daily rights to ensure yours. Every news channel in San Diego has covered it, and we are going nationally, again this weekend, maybe I should mention or print out your email for CNN, it is because of people like you that we feel the need to remind others...These things we do, us moms that give our husbands, brothers, sons and daughters for your right to ignorance.

And I responded with this:

We currently have two family members serving in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. My husband and I are both veterans and we are fully aware of what sacrifices the military makes on this country's behalf. Before you make unfounded assumptions about me and how I feel about the military, at least ask before you attack me personally in such a way. It shows a lack of ignorance on your part.

The war in Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11. It never did and to even insinuate that the troops are fighting for our freedom of speech while occupying a foreign country is not only an insult, but does a diservice to all servicemembers who are living, bleeding and dying for this horrible war based on lies.

The first post was far more offensive since you somehow equate supporting the troops with yellow magnets or flags on a car. I support the troops by calling for bringing them home where they belong. The troops are not supported by the bush administration. They sent them to occupy a foreign land without the equipment they needed. They did it stupidly and without taking in consideration what everyone knew would happen.

I love my country and I love the military. When I see them being harmed and abused, I stand up and speak out. I don't do it by supporting those who have harmed the military.

I'm sick of the meaningless gestures of magnets on cars, candles being lit, but no one doing anything to help our military. They are dying in a war based on lies. Why you aren't outraged or offended by this is beyond my understanding. My nephew and two cousins who are currently overseas know this is bush's war. They know it's for oil and for ego. They know it had nothing to do with WMD or 9/11.

Our military is broken. It will take years to repair and if bush has his way...it will never be what it was prior to this unforgivable act. Anyone who supports the troops should love them enough to want them home and not allow them to be used for political brownie points. Anyone who supports and loves the military should be outraged that there are guys who still don't have the armor they need. They should be offended at every single life that's lost for these lies.

Stick your head in the sand if you want, lie to yourself about the reasons for going to war and keep using meaningless gestures that mean nothing to the majority of troops who are bleeding and dying in a war that should never have been waged in the first place. It makes you pathetically ignorant of the tragedy thousands have suffered under this ungodly war.

I hope you send my email to CNN...I hope it's read over the air. Majority of Americans do not support the war and feel it was a mistake...so my voice will be one of millions who all feel the same.

Post on this list or don't post on this list. I don't care, but I will speak out when I feel like it. You don't have to like truth.

************

I'm really sick of this ignorant crap being spread around as if it's true.

7. Nicely Done...
My sentiments exactly. I can't seem to get it out of my head lately that the yellow ribbons proudly displayed on the backs of SUV's are really indicating a support of this failed excuse for a president, "Our Leader"... Dunno, maybe it's just me...?

8. A final email...
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 09:37 AM by cynatnite
She replied with more bullshit lies and trashed my military service. It was pretty hateful rhetoric. She's not worth any more effort on my part. Here is my final email to her:

Given your over the top emotional reaction to what I said I can see rational discussion is not going to happen here.

You missed the fact that I said I value our military enough to not want them harm or abused as they have been done by this administration. You may be able to accept their treatment of our military, but I can't and I won't.

Even bush finally had to admit that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al Qaeda. This happened during a press conference of his. Yet, you continue to buy into the lies that put your son in a needless war.

There are a lot of bad people in the world, but yet, we're not invading and occupying those countries.

It's a shame and a tragedy that people like you choose to be willfully ignorant of the truth that the majority of American's know. It's a shame that you want your son to fight in a war based on politics and lies. It's not about our freedoms...it's about oil and ego.

I don't need to ridicule you or your over the top emotional reactions. It's all in your reply. I feel pity for you because your willful ignorance of the truth only serves to perpetuate lies. These lies have killed our troops and thousands of innocent civilians. I pity you because you celebrate this horrific war that has brought nothing but death and suffering.

I love my family, my country and the military enough to not want them to fight in a war brought on by lies and politics. I love them all enough to work every day of my life to bring them home where they belong. I love them enough to work towards the day that war become obsolete.

Celebrate and cheer on this war all you like. Trash me and my patriotism all you like. I suppose that's what makes you feel better about yourself so you won't have to deal with the truth. It's easier, isn't it?

I consider lighting a candle, putting a magnet or flag on my car nothing but show and has no real value to help our troops. I choose to show my support in other ways...such as putting into office and supporting those politicians who know the truth you continue to willlfully ignore. I choose to write letters and make phone calls. I also choose to put together care packages for my family currently serving. Those things have lasting value and mean more than a display.

I have no interest in further debating your ignorant arguments for supporting this war being waged for all the wrong reasons. Email me as much as you like, continue to degrade me, my service to my country, my husband's service (Panama and Desert Storm vet) and the rest of my family who have served their country. When you do that, you degrade EVERYONE who has put on a uniform and picked up a gun.

That's not how our military should be honored.

on edit: I had to block her emails because she sent me some moronic and racist crap offlist.
