Roberts WON'T Release Final Pieces Of Pre-War Intell Report Pre-Election
Panel Set to Release Just Part of Report On Run-Up to War
Full Disclosure May Come Post-Election

By Jonathan Weisman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 7, 2006; Page A11

A long-awaited Senate analysis comparing the Bush administration's public statements about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein with the evidence senior officials reviewed in private remains mired in partisan recrimination and will not be released before the November elections, key senators said yesterday.

Instead, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence will vote today to declassify two less controversial chapters of the panel's report, on the use of intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq war, for release as early as Friday. One chapter has concluded that Iraqi exiles in the Iraqi National Congress, who were subsidized by the U.S. government, tried to influence the views of intelligence officers analyzing Hussein's efforts to create weapons of mass destruction.

"It is clear to me, at least, that the INC information provided to the Department of Defense was misleading, that the government spent unnecessary amounts of money supporting that group, and all of that helped create bogus reasons to go to war," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a member of the intelligence committee.

Under pressure from Democrats, Republicans on the committee agreed in February 2004 to write a report on the use of prewar intelligence, but the effort has languished amid partisan feuding. Last year, angry Democrats briefly shut down the Senate to protest the pace of the investigation.

11. If Dems win the senate, Roberts loses his gatekeeper status.
So vote for Dems in 06, even if they are "DINO's"

Because then Roberts and his ilk lose their committee chairs.

Roberts will be replaced by Rockefeller, I believe. Who has been clamoring to get to the bottom of this nonsense.

2. We need someone to leak the damned report.
The r's are going to try to protect yet another election by obstruction.

We need a daring senator fed up with this BS.

12. Second Amen to that...
I'm not so patiently waiting for a Democrat in a position of access to say, "screw my career" and do what's best for the nation.

5. Why should he???
There's no repercussions if he doesn't...only if he does.
All the idiots in the admin have to do is say "National Security, Terrorists and 9/11" in the same sentences and 1/2 the country nods affirmatively...because we all know we've always been at war with Eurasia.
They're not gonna do anything as long as there is no one to force them to. Throw these f**ks out of office and see how fast the rest change their tune. They'd sell out scrubbie, elmer fudd (cheney) and rove in a second to save their own asses.

6. The simple fact
that a "Bush made" Supreme won't release the report pre-election speaks volumes in it self. Imagine if NYT had said we have a report that states whether or not the administration was spying on Americans but we won't release it till after the election.

13. Amen! Another mid-term attack tool Dems are wasting.
How many Americans are up to speed on this? When's the last time they heard about this way overdue report and the stonewalling and gatekeeping? The last time they forced it out to the press big-time. Months and months and months ago.

Time to do it again and to underscore just how very freaking LONG Roberts and the do-nothing, stonewalling obstructionist Repubs have chosen to sit on this. Dems may not be able to change the pace or the outcome before November, but it's one more attack in the arsenal they should be using and framing: That framing to the press should be "Just what is Senator Roberts still trying hide?"

17. Harry Reid never should have dropped this issue.
He forced the senate in to a secret meeting over this, and then just forgot about it after Roberts made his empty promises.

Harry Reid is so innefective he makes me sick...

It's not like we don't know it all anyway and still they hide and deceive.

Christ on a fucking goddamn cracker! It NEVER ends. The truth is hidden. The Bush admin and their lackeys are always protected. These mofos in the senate WORK FOR US not for Bush and the Republican party. GOD I despise these people. May the conscience of every dead American land on their shoulders for all eternity when THEY knew the truth and did nothing but protect themselves.

LIES LIES LIES yeah. The Thompson Twins (circa 1984) is the theme song for the SENATE and all they do to protect their liar in chief.

I think the LOT of them should be barred from office for ever. But not that I care about the truth or anything. Because lies are what America eats for breakfast.
