Boycotts DO work!
The religious nutcases boycotted Disney a number of years ago, regarding something stupid, and Disney CAPITULATED.

BOYCOTT ABC/DISNEY NOW AND NEVER STOP UNTIL THEY FEEL OUR WRATH!

1. We have three days
Are we really going to keep this miniseries off the air?

And what if you succeed, boycotters? I mean once you discover you have the power to keep this movie off the air - what do you do next?

2. We may not keep it off. But we may prevent them from repeating
this scurrilous propaganda at a latter date. PLUS, and most importantly, massive media missiles aimed at ABC/Disney will bring public attention to their propagandistic LIES.

3. disney capitulated? How so?
The fundies declared victory because they had lost. They had no impact on Disney whatsoever.

5. I don't remember the issue. It related to something "sexual" I believe.
The moral idiots protested shows including gays etc. Disney obviously HAS capitulated to these morons.

7. Par for the course for them
"The fundies declared victory because they had lost"

The Mouse did us proud on that one telling the So Baptist to fuck off when it came to Gay Days and partner benefits.

Now our side is taking a go at them over a movie that before this kerfuffle started likely would have shit ratings. Look at United 93 and WTC and how they fared and throw in the opening weekend of the NFL. I am starting to wonder if ABC created this controversey on purpose to gin up interest. It all started with something as simple as telling Rush Limbaugh that the film rips Clinton and you have instant buzz both from his fans and his enemies.

11. I agree
I think the letters coming from Clinton's attorney, Albright, Berger, and the concerns being expressed by House Democrats is great. I think calls for a boycott are a waste of time and are all to reminiscent of silly boycott threats made by fundies over programming, movies, etc. that they admit they haven't seen.

4. Disney capitulated? Last I checked they still have Gay Days
And they still pay out benefits to same sex partners.

So in other words the religious nutcases failed even with massive organized letter writing and fulmination.

8. Info
Southern Baptists and other fundies groups were upset with Disney because Disney is gay friendly. They include same sex partners in their employee benefit packages among others things.

Here's info on the boycotters http://www.religioustolerance.org/disney2.htm notice most of these groups have been in full bore boycott mode since 1996)

Gay Day started unofficially at first but has been sponsored by Disney since 1998. Basically is a day when many gay men and women and their families come to enjoy Disney World. Not much different from Little League night at your local ballpark.

More info here http://www.gayday.com/

The funny thing is I typed in Boycott Disney on Google and it appears that everyone(left, right, mainstream, nutcases etcs) is boycotting Disney for one reason or another.

10. actually, I think you have no idea what YOU are talking about
As you've acknowledged, you really don't know diddly squat about the fundies boycott of Disney. It was precipitated principally by Disney's giving partner benefits to gay employees and by their facilitating "Gay Days" at the theme parks. (Here, give yourself an education: http://www.gayday.com/). Disney has not retreated on those issues. The fundies also didn't like some of ABC's programming, such as "Ellen". Well, Ellen eventually was cancelled, but ABC still has a number of shows that feature a gay character and/or are on the fundies (s)hit list, such as Despearate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, as well as new shows Brothers and Sisters, Big Day, and Ugly Betty. Hell, the fundies object to According to Jim.

So try educating yourself before you start threads making assertions on subjects as to which you admit to being ill-informed.
