Norah O'Donnell at it again (torture at Gitmo not really torture)
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 07:41 PM by ticapnews
Interviewing a former Muslim Army Chaplain who says prisoners were not treated well in US custody and she's essentially accusing him of lying.

Q: I know you spent a lot of time at Camp X-Ray, I've actually been there with defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld, You were ministering to many of the detainees there. Did you feel sorry for them?"

"I was sympathetic to the fundamental American values: diversity, tolerance, religious freedom and providing humane treatment."

Q: "And are you saying our US military is not providing these alleged terrorists good treatment?"

"A lot of what the prisoners experienced was degrading and inhumane."

"Now wait a minute, James. Are you saying that our military, which you are formerly a member of, are engaged in torture at Guantanamo Bay?"

"For sure when I was at Guantanamo there was abuse and mistreatment of prisoners..."

Norah interrupts to say, "Abuse is different than torture!"

"A lot of the things are degrading and inhumane and I think we should be sure we don't do those kinds of things. It doesn't help the intelligence gathering process."

Q: "Given what we have learned about this super-secret domestic spy program the NSA is using to track calls made here in the United States over there -- overseas -- are you concerned that your phones have been tapped?"

"Without a doubt. I think a lot of what this administration is doing is overreaching. In my case (he was jailed for being a spy but the evidence never materialized and he was released) you see the military getting it so wrong - not just the military but also o ut intelligence agencies and a lot of times I think they are going down the wrong..."

Norah interrupts again:
"Do you have some sympathy for those out there we have -- 9/11 was such an unexpected and terrible event -- we had to do more, we had to tighten up, and in your case it was just an example of gone wrong (no idea what that even means) -- do you understand that point of view?

"National security is very important and the American Muslim community can be instrumental in helping. But when we see NSA approval of spying and radiation montioring at Muslim centers that breeds distrust among Muslims and prevents the building of bridges with law enforcement."

(end of interview)

3. Let's waterboard Whora, then ask her whether she would define it as
torture or merely abuse.

16. I say we strip her naked, punch her in the face,
stack her in a human pyramid and shove glow sticks up her ass. Then ask her to define what just happened.

18. VIDEO of that segment
To be fair, she pressed Yee to say if he was claiming torture and he did NOT say it was. He had a chance to clarify

Now whether she said it in a right-wing rah-rah way is something else. But I think he dropped the ball.

20. She proclaimed it with extreme confidence
not knowing a whit about what she was talking. Yes, Yee could have followed up, but keerist, he's a grunt who had the guts to step forward. Gotta give him credit for that.

22. Oh, I thought he was great,... but in this instance, she asked him twice
if he meant torture. She wouldn't have been able to be triumphant over him had he called it like it was if he really McCain style torture.

5. I think we should send dear Nora to GITMO for a year or so
and allow her to experience all of those things that she says are not torture. When she comes back I'll be tuned in to hear her report.

I really need to hear that phrase from the media right about now, to reassure me we're doing nothing wrong.

6. There will be apologists until the bitter end...
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 07:32 PM by politicaholic
The truth will come out after people have stopped caring, that's the way it always happens.

The problem is that the abused person and their families never forget the dishonor these abuses caused. Especially in a society where some more fundamentalist sects believe that honor is more important than a human life.

8. she's completely evil
Her face just contorts with hatred whenever she has to refer to Democrats, or any criticism of her boy Bush, or anything that doesn't toe to the GE-mandated line. She's one of the ugliest individuals in cable news today. Just repellent.

11. Is it torture? Here's a simple test
If an American serviceman was stripped, made to masturbate in front of women and wounded by vicious dogs, would they call it torture then?

We're interested in the news, not the O.P.I.N.I.O.N.S of your actors. Norah should get a job on the Food Network. "Dicing is different than chopping."

I doubt she's experienced either. Nor would she want to, I'm sure, even for comparison purposes.

He said no that he was repub, but she is such a shameless shill.
She is just a high paid call girl who has as much to do with reporting the news
as I have to do with lion hunting with a spear in Africa.

I wonder if she is on Karl's speed dial?
