About this ABC imbroglio... |
|
One thing still isn't clear to me, nor have I seen it addressed. Let's be generous and accept their explanation at face value: it's a dramatization and isn't intended to be 100% faithful to the the events as they actually occurred. But the question I have is WHY? What the hell is the point of showing an inaccurate portrayal of the events leading up to 9/11? (Of course I understand the *real* reason -- I'm just doing a thought-experiment here). Has anybody talked to ABC and said "OK. I buy your explanation that this is a dramatization. But *why* show a dramatization? Isn't the real story interesting enough? How does a dramatization serve an historical purpose?" Given the rhetorical framework they've set forth, has anybody asked them the simple question "WHY show a dramatization?"

2. If this thing airs ... |

... and Clinton et al sue, THAT will be what they have to explain in open court, along with WHO backed this program financially, WHY ABC/Disney chose to air it commercial-free thereby losing revenues that would have accrued to stockholders, etc.

10. "Aired without interruption ..." |
|
Budgeted at between $30-40 million. Who sinks that kind of money into a production without planning to recoup the investment, plus make a profit?
WHO put up the money? What did ABC/Disney get in return for agreeing to air it commercial-free? Two more questions yet to be fully answered ...

And thank you for asking a great question;
" Why show a dramatization?"
I too, see no point in the fiction, the real story is one of the biggest events in US history.
Another question is,
How many people watching 'The Path to 9-11' are going to realize and remember the fictionalized parts? Won't many take it at face value?
That's where the damage is done.

9. Pimping Bush*'s fake legacy. |

"The Blue & The Gray" was substituted for factual Civil War history in classrooms across the country for years-- probably still is.
These "dramatizations" have a way of becoming "fact" in the minds of impressionable children.
