How about a campaign to file protests with the FCC on the airing
of "Path to 9/11?" Hell, if the neocons can get thousands of people to file complaints over someone flashing a boob or saying a naughty word on TV shouldn't we be able to garner enough to flood the FCC with complaints over propaganda on ABC? I know who runs the FCC right now but they would still have to address and handle the problem.

Appears that ABC and their affiliates are going to run the show, how can we get into their wallets besides boycotts of their shows and sponsors?

Think people, we can do this. Let's get organized. Every liberal and progressive web site could provide a link to file a complaint directly with the FCC.

1. I agree -- this isn't "F9/11" that you had to pay to see
or the Reagan movie that got moved over to CABLE. These are the public airwaves -- this is going to be piped into every single home with a TV. The BFEE and their supporters have NO RIGHT to use our airwaves to "catapult the propaganda"!!!

2. Politicizing the pUblic airwaves under the guise of a ...
Mockumentary..
Cockumentary..

and airing deliberaterly FALSE, LIBELOUS and DEFAMING material when they knew it was false. Good reason to get the Affiliates licenses yanked...

and it will be the AFFILIATES that will bear the brunt, since you can't yank the 'network' license.

3. One Problem
Lets say we get enough people to get the FCC to investigate. Who's to say they won't investigate after the fact? "Yep, sure looks like propaganda to me." But by then, the show will have aired. It starts in three days. They are likely closed on weekends. So it has to be done this very minute. And I'm not sure it can come together that fast.

4. Then let the lawsuits begin. From what hear, there is plenty of
room for libel and slander suits.

5. A boycott would be utterly useless. How would ABC know that
you're not watching their shows, unless you happen to be a Nielsen pollee?

Complain to the FCC? A much better idea. It's on my to-do list for tomorrow morning. Should be on everyone else's, too.

7. What Grounds?
OK...besides it costing millions to challeng a license and the fact there hasn't been a successful license challenge of a TV station in over 25 years...let's put that little factor aside.

I'm curious...what reason would you use to have their license revoked? Obscenity? Abuse? Bad Breath?

I'm tired of Democrats playing PR machine for the Repugnicans...and that's what's going on here. I don't plan to watch this crap...not that there's anything on ABC worth watching anyway. Next week this will be long forgotten and the lies contained in that smockumentary will be out there for us to bash with.

9. I don't know the exact procedure or what basis we have to file
complaints, hopefully someone here at DU could advise on the nuts and bolts. I just know that Focus on the Family and other neocon reichwing groups organize and complain over the silliest things practically on a weekly basis.

I know that knowingly telling lies to a public can constitute propaganda and aren't there strict rules against that?

The link to filing a complaint is at this link at the FCC - it can't hurt!

10. Been There, Done That...
I'd find other ways to get at these stations. It's called a "Public Inspection File"...where letters about a station's performance (including complaints) not only have to be filed, but made openly available to the public. Not maintaining these files or withholding them from the public is one of the greatest sins a broadcast station can make. Still...the worst the FCC does is levies a silly fine (pennies to a corporation like Disney) and its on to making more money.

Sadly, this crap is fully protected by freedom of speech. But I also have the right not to pay attention or watch it, or to spend money at any Disney attraction or watch a Disney-owned channel or buy things at the local Disney store. A week from now this crap will be long forgotten, but the nation's problems won't. ABC will still have to find ways to turn a buck and draw a real audience.

The problem here is the left doesn't have as large or coordinated of an "echo machine" as the right wing. When you refer to Dobson or right wing hate spewers, you're looking at a very well organized and funded operation...something we could do as well, but haven't. We don't have talk shows on every spot on the dial relating the same talking points or have set up a network of business, entrepeneurs, broadcasters and others to create much more than Air America...and that's limping along. I wish we did have such a "mighty Wurlitzer"...it would have saved this nation from a lot of grief, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

I'd surely file a complain with your local ABC station...and then make certain it's filed in the "Public Inspection file". I'd suggest other DU members to do the same. Then, if you still want to screw around, we go and find out if these letters were really posted and if not, then you have a REAL complaint to take to the FCC that will cost Disney or whomever some pocket change to clean up.
