i talked to school superintendent, head of all social studies and
a secretary today. they all stated they heard about movie thru advt, but hadn't heard any controversy. i explained all the information coming out the last couple days and scholastic being used thru the schools and we had a good conversation for a long period of time. they were interested and receptive. this is in the very red panhandle of texas. i told them that regardless of this area being so red, i have always had a positive experience with teachers in differing opinions and was optimistic, even in this.

it was well worth the call and informing them what was happening thru out our nation.

it also made three people who probably would have watched the show with no thought to falsehoods, aware. and i am sure they will watch with a different eye. not to mention all the people they will talk to today, about the call they received from me. that will be just that many more people wary of this show.

not all people who vote for bush are bush bot. not all people want to feed the children lies, to win agenda and certainly not in our school system. i do not find that at all. and as i say, i live in a very red area were about all think alike so they should be comfortable teaching propaganda, but they don't and they aren't.

it was a good experience today talking to them. and talking to my son, 11, about the movie and the whole to do going on with the film. he asked his teacher today if they would be seeing it. that i had problems with it and i am a pretty open minded person. (he said that about me, to his teacher, so sweet)

i do encourage conversation. a good experience for all of us. we chatted how important not to stop the information, oh no i insisted, we have to have these discussions, but..... honesty was just too important in the teaching of our children.

i called the lady of social studies back right before she got off work and told her, scholastic put out a statement. it was disassociating itself from the movie. we chatted some more, and she thank me for the update. and .... we can go on.

2. Unintended consequences for GOP?
The fact that folks like you are taking the opportunity to discuss these issues with people you ordinarily might not and, as a result, may stimulate many to start thinking a bit more critically and re-examine their assumptions re: Bush* and the Repugs?

Good for you, Seabeyond. If we can each do this to 10, 20, 30 people.... think of the results!

but the more conversation continued, i saw it go from protective to interested to bothered and we like became one in our goals with our kids on opposite ends. really was positive.
