(VIDEO) “It turned out not all the facts were correct”: Harvey Keitel
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 12:13 AM by tuvor
Sounds like a bush quote, but it's Harvey Keitel, star of Pathway to 9/11.

Flip-flopping at the eleventh hour? I dunno.

Keitel: Yea, I had questions about events–material I was given in the Path to 9/11 that I did raise questions about. Yes, I had some conflicts there.

Q: How was that met?

Keitel: With discussion..ummm with argument. When I received the script it said ABC history project –I took it to be exactly what they presented to me. History–and that facts were correct. It turned out not all the facts were correct and ABC set about trying to heal that problem..In some instances it was too late because we had begun.

Q: Do you feel that anything should be changed in this film?

Keitel: Yes I do. This is a tough issue.–(sure)

You can compile certain things as long as the truth remains the truth. You can’t put things together, compress them and then distort the reality.

Q:…in the case of September 11th though, do you feel that it is an absolute responsibility that it be factually accurate even if it is a dramatization?

Keitel: Absolutely, you cannot cross the line from a conflation of events to a distortion of the event. No. Where we have distorted something we have made a mistake-and that should be corrected. It can be corrected. It can be corrected by the people getting involved in the story that they are going to see.

1. The thing is, Keitel, as an actor, doesn't know what the film will look
like until the director (a RW stooge, btw) has finished editing it, etc. I'm not so sure that Keitel is a bad guy in any of this.

Assuming he'd read it.

2. "It can be corrected by the people getting involved in the story that they
are going to see."

Is he referring to Clinton, Albright & Berger, or the freeptard public that he believes will question and correct the mistakes?

Sounds like a cop-out to me.

5. script
From what I read, the fake scene where Berger hangs up on the CIA agent waiting to tell the Northern Alliance to kill Bin Laden was improvised.

Nothing in the script could have warned Keitel about that one.

I'm just waiting for the scene where Andy Card runs into the Florida school to alert Bush, and he leaps from the chair, says goodbye to the children and races out to his Harrier jet parked outside the school to jet off to intercept the 3rd plane.

9. The director is the son of an evangelical group founder
"Path to 9-11" director David Cunningham's is the son of Loren Cunningham, founder of the worldwide evangelical missionary group Youth With a Mission (YWAM).

11. Agitprop: The scene with Keitel as John O'Neill...
His line is, to the effect of, "This administration (Clinton) considers terrorism a law-and-order matter. Period."

John O'Neill wouldn't have said that. He wouldn't have said it during the Clinton administration. That is the language of POST-9/11. And it is blantantly anti-Clinton RW talking point. Harvey, if you got suckered, you got suckered BAD.

19. I don't think we were bashing, we were just questioning why
a man who has a pretty consistant liberal past would knowingly do a movie that distorts the truth about what happened on 9/11.

I was disappointed that Keitel was in it but Amy Madigan broke my heart - she's a major activist

37. Well let me rephrase it
It was early when I posted that

For many of us we just didn't understand and that's why we questioned it. I'm glad that Keitel has come out about it. This will not be the last time that 9/11 is fictionalized for our viewing pleasures. We just hope that when actors consider the part that they are sensitive to portraying the events of 9/11 accurately as oppose to a docudrama with a serious partisan bent.

But directors, writers & producers can over come actors questioning these types of movies by only presenting a partial script of just the scenes for the actor, an incomplete script or even just a version that eliminates a few questionable scenes.

From the posts I've had about Harvey Keitel & Amy Madigan, I think we were all wondering "What were they thinking". And after watching the Keitel interview I can clearly see that Keitel signed onto a project that he read as being fair and non-partisan but not given the full scope of the script.

I've been thinking about writing her a letter. Seriously. It was hugely disappointing to me.

Keitel is a domestic abusing schmuck, regardless of his Dem money contributions, so that didn't necessarily shock me all that much.

I believe we should consider ourselves lucky that someone that shares our concerns

Harvey was on my sign line, and that is the entirety of my relationship with him, other than loving his skill as an actor.

So what's with these people who just go along, taking the check for the check and knowing there's bad stuff going on. This was going to be shown to children afterall.

Whatever, Harvey, buy a consonant. the letter "Q", quit the next time you smell the B.S.

What fucking BS! The fantasy path to 9/11 isn't even out yet, but enough is enough! I have decided to quit TV.

"It can be corrected by the people getting involved in the story that they are going to see." - Is Harvey putting the onus on the people whom he misrepresented?

23. Keitel (O'Neil) delivers "The Tell": Two Words -- "Political Correctness"
It only takes seeing 15 seconds of the released clip for the neofascist propaganda bias to reveal itself.

The term "political correctness" used as a generic accusation.

It was an act of pure cowardice to put those words in the mouth of someone no longer able to defend their own reputation.

It doesn't get much lower.

used his footage in F9/11?

Couldn't Harvey Keitel put a lawsuit up saying that he refuses that they use his image, since it was under false pretenses?

I'm sure that the Repukes would say that he would have to give up the money he was paid ...

28. People who blame the actors
Have no clue how movies are made.

First, if you are not the star then you will NOT be seeing the entire script. Now I know that doesn't excuse Keitel, but some have said they will boycott every actor involved.

And that is just stupid.

The are those among our numbers who see everything as politics, and believe there are no unintentional acts. According to them Mr KEitel is no longer philosophical pure, and there fore must be destroyed. Same thing happens when Jon Stewart makes fun of Democrats.

34. My two cents...
I think Harvey Keitel and Amy Madigan, and any of the other actors were probably misled into thinking this was more balanced and factual than the finished project reflects. They probably didn't even see the full script.
