Send lawyers, guns, and money!

Actually, one of my all time favorite Warren Zevon songs is Carmelita:

I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I'm there with her in Ensenada
And I'm here in Echo Park

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin

RIP, Warren Zevon.

6. If I may say so myself....
I have this parlor guitar made by George Washburn himself (1860) and it has a great bottleneck version of 'Carmelita' that rides around inside of it.

Thanks for the plug.

And I have been in that place more than once.

4. Don't you feel like desperadoes under the eaves...
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 01:13 AM by Hissyspit
Here's hoping he rests in peace.

Desperadoes Under The Eaves

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was staring in my empty coffee cup
I was thinking that the gypsy wasn't lyin'
All the salty margaritas in Los Angeles
I'm gonna drink 'em up

And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill

Don't the sun look angry through the trees
Don't the trees look like crucified thieves
Don't you feel like Desperados under the eaves
Heaven help the one who leaves

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands
And I'm trying to find a girl who understands me
But except in dreams you're never really free
Don't the sun look angry at me

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was listening to the air conditioner hum
It went mmmmmm mmmmm mmmmmmmmmmm.............................

Look away..........................................
Look away down Gower Avenue
Look away....

This is the collection to start with:

44 songs on two discs, although it doesn't have "Wild Age" ...

7. I remember Letterman was almost in tears talking about his death
that night.

Warren was a good friend to Late Night, and a great musician.

I miss him...but I still have his music. :)

You entertained the HELL out of far more people than you knew...One of the most talented artists of his generation, who is so, so deeply missed.

12. Wow, I didn't realize it had been three years.
His spirit lives on.

'Boston Legal' used a couple of his songs in their episodes last year which reinforced my love for both. :-)

13. "She's so many women...
He can't find the one who was his friend.
He's hanging on to half a heart
He can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind..."

O Warren, you are sorely missed.

What a songwriter.

I have heard Linda Rondstadt do it true justice.

Beautiful stuff.

17. Sleep well, my friend.
So much to do, there's plenty on the farm
I'll sleep when I'm dead
Saturday night I like to raise a little harm
I'll sleep when I'm dead

Well, I take this medicine as prescribed
I'll sleep when I'm dead
It don't matter if I get a little tired
I'll sleep when I'm dead

Thanks for the reminder, Tom.

19. thanks for this
He was so uniquely great. Mr. Batgirl is a huge fan and one of our first dates was to see WZ and his keyboard in Pontiac.
An experience so enjoyable it almost makes me forget about that time he took me to see Ratdog.
Better give Mr. Batgirl an extra hug today.

25. As the years go by,
I find myself missing Warren even more than I miss Jerry.

I never thought I'd say that, but it's true.

"Keep Me In Your Heart" is an absolutely beautiful song.

29. Will always keep you in my heart, Warren
One of the worst things about facing your own death is the fear that everyone will forget you and that everything you've done will be forgotten.

That's why he wrote this song, to ask that everyone not forget he was here and that he made a difference.
