Counteract Government Disobedience with Civil Disobedience |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 01:57 AM by Philosoraptor
We need to fight back in realistic ways that hurt, writing our congressmen and protesting and voting has it's place but we need boycotts and sit downs and stand ins and camp ins and we need to make our voices heard in a peaceful but noticeable way.
Our own government is subverting the will of the people and disobeying we, their employers, this is governmental disobedience, they have placed themselves above our laws and it is time to counteract with civil disobedience.
Please suggest some examples of practical civil disobedience. I'd like to see boycotts organized to happen on a single day to make a point, like don't buy gas day, or don't buy anything day, or don't watch ABC lies day, you get the drift.
Civil disobedience is not a riot or bloody revolt, it is simply disobeying in a civil manner to make a political point when nothing else seems to work.
If they totally ignore the laws of the land, we should to, and there are not enough prisons to house us all.
All praise to Cindy Sheehan.

1. I liked the slow drive campaign after election '04 |
|
When you drive, drive well below the speed limit. I did it, and it ticked a lot of people off. If enough did it maybe people would progress to wondering what the hell was going on and why.

2. look to the example of the civil rights era |
|
The activists were not allowed to sit at the lunch counter, so they did. And they simply banded together and walked, dressed in their best clothes and without any other cause represented than equal rights. No baby whales, no animal rights, no green issues or any other cause but equal rights.
1. One demand. What is ours?
2. Solidarity.
3. Serious, calm, sincere demeanor. No papier mache figures on stilts, no dancing faeries. Just citizens in serious garb.

1) Election Integrity: media, financial, and day-of-election areas. (But, y'know, feel free to integrate into/towards one demand.) 2) Yes 3) Hell yes

4. How Far Do You Want To Take It? |
|
---- Years ago, I led a highly successful local campaign (small town) to get all contractors,... builders, plumbers, electricians, etc,.... to refuse to perform any work for members of a particular law firm. Your post made me think about targeting local GOP officials in the same manner, although the small town venue would be a crucial factor.
----I'm not convinced about the "one day" principle of sending a message,... people have short memories, and some scarcely notice anything at all. Making a political point to neocon followers reminds me of a story about a stubborn mule and a 2x4. Get the picture?
