It's just a damn TV show!
Oh people just stop it, we've taken a miniseries that only would have pulled a nothing rating and turned into must see tv. The people who would have seen this movie as gospel more than likely will be watching FOOTBALL yeah sunday and monday night are owned by the sport maybe you heard of it. We have made a moon out of a baseball!

31. Agreed. When Americans hear/see something on tv, they believe it. Don't
think that a disclaimer will work; they won't even read it. 43% of Americans still believe that Saddam was responsible for 9-11. Why? Because that's what they were told and what was inferred 24/7 on all the news shows. If the miniseries airs, the lies it contains will become "facts".

what does bush say all the time, he always equates us just sitting in front of TV, and take what is on TV as gospel. This is dangerous this is pure propaganda and excuses bush ever being involved, but we know better don't we, it was bush sitting in that classroom, and to some people who have no sense at all they will take this all in, get ready for people to say it was Clinton's fault again. Just because Bush is a man who doesn't question anything they apparently think everyone thinks like Bush. I am pissed.

Kerry's big mistake was his inability to out frame his opponents slander and redirected at them with better arguments. This is the same thing and now we are falling for the same trap! We all go after this issue time, resources, ink what have you and in a week they will out flank on some other issue that this will help make the way for. Watch just set back and watch!

30. LOL!
Really?

Your position is nonsense. The larger issue in regard to the Swiftboating of Kerry and the ABC 9/11 program is that the gargantuan corporate conglomerates that provide Americans with upwards of 80% of what they receive as news, are fully and completely part of the right wing propaganda network. For example, the Swiftboaters only had to spend a paltry sum on making their outrageous and untrue allegations against Kerry and the MSM did the rest. In essence, the MSM IS NOW the PR arm of the GOP. It is nearly impossible for a Democrat to define anything or anyone because the vast majority of news organizations will never show it or discuss it. The MSM in the case of the Swiftboaters AND this 9/11 piece of dung, shamudrama are providing the GOP and BushCo with millions and millions of dollars of free propaganda and PR. It is sickening and quite true.

"For example, the Swiftboaters only had to spend a paltry sum on making their outrageous and untrue allegations against Kerry and the MSM did the rest." What are you smoking had we not allowed the MSM to PUSH thoses clowns as a real voice they would never have gotten a foothold. We allowed the GOP to run wild on that issue for a month before the real question was asked by Kerry, "Where was Bush's service record, since we need to attack mine?" That should have been THE first and last word on the issue from us.

Fox news is still on the air, Rush is still number one, and oh yeah Bush stole the election. This is a silly fight bigger fish to fry. The movie would have went largly unnoticed in most homes. NFL opening weekend along with the first conference games for most college teams the masses would have missed this one. The right wing would be using it as a preaching box on monday with no one really have seeing it but look at it now! Come ON! we have made a bigger whole than the sum of this issues parts.

fox or Rush. This is about 9-11 and truth. People in the World Trade Center had to decide to choose between falling or melting. This isn't about Clinton or the Democratic party.

I guess you had to be a New Yorker to understand why this can't be used to Bullshit people. It can't be anyone talking points.

I understand why this administration wants this choice of programing run. Then let them run it at a GOP function. It should not be affiliated with a news network nor tie up the people's air wave.

Ever see that quite excellent series on the History Channel of the HJ? Know who the most brutal and fantastic soldiers were as the Germans were losing? Who turned in their parents? Who attacked foreign laborers? etc.? The kids who were gotten to early.

Get 'em young.

THIS is how it starts -- in drips... drips that get bigger all the time until they turn into a deluge.

There are a lot of people involved in pressuring ABC, and the Holy Rodent Empire seems to be feeling the heat for a change. If you have something that's more pressing, more useful, more productive, for liberal causes, then by all means go do it. Just stay out of the way of other people working on a different part of the corrupt elephant.

Especially if you have a pet project that you'd like to pursue. Folks are far more likely to help out on a project when they've been helped (or at least not hindered) in the past.

This is another inch down that slippery slope, why we're losing the larger battles that you discussed. A lie travels halfway around the world, before the truth gets it's boots on. This time, the truth is getting a head start. Maybe if we'd been active before, the battles you say take precedence would never have needed to be fought.

It is being presented on the anniversary of a tragedy, *without commercial interruption* (WHO bought all that network air time?), for political gain.

It's being fobbed off as history, when it in fact re-writes history. It is designed strictly to influence, and thus is pure propaganda, which (as far as network television is concerned) is illegal. :grr:

ABC has gotten a great deal of very unwanted publicity, and the public is asserting its right to its own airwaves.

43. Read "RAPE OF THE MIND" then get back to me.
This type of psychological manipulation is propaganda plain and simple.

I agree they had planned to use us to provide them with an added promotional edge. That part is indisputable in my mind, but if we (the Democratic Party) actually do more than just gnash our teeth and wave our fist at them, then we've accomplished more than we have in the past. That will go a long way to breathing life into a fighting spirit for the up coming election.

If President Clinton pursues his legal rights and kicks them where it hurts (their pocketsbooks) then that is a step in the direction of making them think about the very real repercussions for their actions the next time. And again, it goes along way into breathing life into a fighting spirit for the Dems in the up coming election.

On a whole, I don't think they've taken into account how angry the Americans who've seen through their mental manipulation tricks really are.

Just a damn TV show? No, it's a call to arms. Enough of the lying!

48. Yes, Joost A. M. Meerloo, have you heard of rope a dope?
Rope-a-dope is a boxing fighting style used most famously by Muhammad Ali in the Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman. The idea is for the boxer to lie on the ropes of a boxing ring, conserve energy and allow the opponent to strike him repeatedly in hopes of making him tire and open up weaknesses to exploit for an eventual counter-attack. Hmmm sounds like what the GOP has done to us for 12 years!

How aware of what is actually taking place are you? Did you know that this was also planned to be used as a learning tool in our public schools?

Do you know that thanks to our hard work it's no longer going to be pushed on our students as fact?

Do you realize that while you sit there on your hands conserving your energy OUR future generations are being fed lies and told it was history?

As I said read, "Rape of the Mind" and you get a very good idea of how the GOP are using propaganda to pollute and distort the minds of our future.

77. That's what they are doing !
We fight them tooth and nail on every issue we think will wake up the american people. Swiftboat, then Downing Street, NSA Spying. I mean it blow after blow and thejust take and then the second anything happens that they can spin at up BOOM down on the mat we go. They remake the reality we try to expose through lies. We have to stop fighting every lie and start to framing the discussion in the Country back to the truth.

79. Perhaps you should read my post again
Your reply made no sense-what-so-ever in context to what I wrote.

Here, I'll paste it below for you...

So according to you we should sit on our hands and let them have their way with us?

How aware of what is actually taking place are you? Did you know that this was also planned to be used as a learning tool in our public schools?

Do you know that thanks to our hard work it's no longer going to be pushed on our students as fact?

Do you realize that while you sit there on your hands conserving your energy OUR future generations are being fed lies and told it was history?

As I said read, "Rape of the Mind" and you get a very good idea of how the GOP are using propaganda to pollute and distort the minds of our future.

Now, we've successfully spanked Scholastic for their use of the "Path to 9/11 docudrama and Study Guide." In having done so there will now be a generation of young people who are NOT taught lies as history.

I don't care how anyone tries to re-frame this one, it's a win, a big one.

84. You or stuck on your own arrgument and not what i said!
I Said that " THE GOP IS PLAYING ROPE A DOPE WITH US" I then gave you the deffination of ROPE-A-DOPE :

Rope-a-dope is a boxing fighting style used most famously by Muhammad Ali in the Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman. The idea is for the boxer to lie on the ropes of a boxing ring, conserve energy and allow the opponent to strike him repeatedly in hopes of making him tire and open up weaknesses to exploit for an eventual counter-attack.

So you say : " So according to you we should sit on our hands and let them have their way with us?"

No what I said was "WE" are punding at them and they just set there taking it letting us sound like a bunch of frantic far left babies. We need to move the fight back to the middle of the ring it's where we can win.

No maore talking points just frank honest assessment. The american people aren't dumb give a man dirty water and he will drink it if he thirst, however give the man clean and dirty water he will take only clean water for the same thirst. I say Give people the truth and keep giing it to them and shows like this will just get low ratings and the networks will stop tring to feed it to us. However if we "just" fight the show's right leaning views we look like spoil sports not thruth bringers .

FACT: If we did as you suggest they would have continued to supply these bogus study guides to our schools.

I'm sorry but, your argument does not hold water when it's presented with the facts.

82. That's just it: we haven't been fighting
We (i.e., Kerry) didn't fight them on the Swift Liars. We were "rope-a-doping," I guess. We didn't fight them on the Iraq War resolution; we were too busy bending over. We didn't fight them on Alito; we were "keeping our powder dry." We didn't fight them on the Chief Justice; more dry powder, I suppose. Hell, we didn't even fight them on the 2000 Florida recount.

Now, only just now, that we have found our voice and the American people are starting to listen, you want us to rope-a-dope some more? That speaks volumes. VOLUMES.

As for me, not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent.

It's time to fight. Every issue. Every fight. Never surrender.

130. But propagating the truth means fighting the lies.
How can you propagate the truth without fighting the lies? It is the same thing.

Let's face it, this is not a perfect world. To deny that Broadcast TV influences people's opinions is to deny reality. Google Marshall McLuhan or "The medium is the massage". He was considered an eccentric at the time, but he has been proven the greatest visionary of our times.

"It's just a TV show", indeed! "It's just a editorial". "It's just a Poll". "It's just a new law". Watch the movie Cabaret. That's what they all said in Germany before ....

-Ratings Breakdown:
The debut of NFL Football on NBC roared out of the starting gate, thwarting the series-premieres of Fox comedies ‘Til Death and Happy Hour. The Miami/Pittsburgh match-up scored a 13.4/22 in the overnights from 8:45-11:45 p.m., with (including the pre-game kick-off) an estimated 16.96 million viewers and a 6.7/19 among adults 18-49 in primetime ( NUMBER ONE)

That crappy movie would have been killed by the SNF and then been all but forgoten about on monday! not only that, but teachers can use this as a basis for quizzes and term papers and other class projects, thus further reinforcing the lies.

how many fundy teachers are going to disclose the lies in this thing?

how many of our overburdened teachers will be able to pick out all the lies themselves?

many of these kids will go on to become teachers themselves and thus further perpetuate the lies, albeit unwittingly.

That would be that the Democrats cannot keep us safe. I personally know several people who voted for Bush based on this lie.

Why are you not upset with this BRAINWASH piece being shown on a MAJOR NETWORK? You obviously have NO CLUE how powerful TV is. Try thinking like the average joe for once. They dont follow politics. They dont have time for the news. But most of them sit down for the Sunday night movie on ABC or CBS or NBC. Its not too hard to imagine. And these people TRUST THE BOX. To them, if ABC is putting a movie like this out there, it has to be true. There are MILLIONS of these people. They work hard all week, are busy with kids and only have a few hours in the evening to chill out and veg in front of the box. Now along comes this "movie" that might be semi-entertaining and also "educational". These people have no reason not to get BRAINWASHED by this movie.

But its just a TV show.

104. The Pukes are NOT playing rope-a-dope
They're the ones pounding away on us. Lie after lie after lie. We're the ones who have been cowering on the ropes (if ONLY we fought like Ali, inside and outside the ring!). Contrary to your assertion, we have not been fighting. We have been bending over, playing fair, making nice, etc., while the Pukes jab jab jab at us. And occasionally hit us with a thundering "right." You say we need to save it for a more important fight. I disagree. That's simply the same old "keep your powder dry" argument we've endured time after time (Roberts, Alito, etc. ad infinitum). I say, and most DUers say, it is time to fight the lies. This is as good a place as any to start.

If we let the "little lies" go unchallenged, the sheep become so conditioned to them that nobody listens if/when we challenge the Big Lie. Not that PT9/11 is a "little lie." It's huge.

89. I agree with most posters on here
P 2 9/11 is not just a "damn TV show" it is pure propaganda. Propaganda that has been told over and over again. We are fighting it because we are sick of the lies that the RW media has told us and if you think that most people won't swallow it or watch something else, think again. I know people that actually believe that Clinton didn't do anything about terrorism or 9/11. I know people that believe in the Saddam/Iraq/9/11 link. The average pool of citizens in this country are gullible and the media knows it. The RW propaganda machine knows it. Tell them that 2+2=5 and they believe it, the quote it as if it is gospel. The media has given Muslims a black mark, many here in the US and most of the Western world still believe and do believe that people in the ME are bakcward savages and terrorists. It is not true but yet many believe it. I know because I have taken the Islamic path and I have experienced that kind of thinking. My mom thinks that way which is why I have gotten out of Islam. People are lazy... they don't want to check facts, there is a whole world of facts out there re: the Internet, but they are too lazy to research and thus take things of face value.

Advertising is a good example: if the masses are told that Soda Pop A is better than Soda pop B, many are inclined to believe it. If they are told to buy the latest and greatest MP3 Player, most will do it.

So propaganda via the media is powerful, that is how the world's "greatest" tyrants were able to influence the masses.

So no, it's not just a "damn TV show"

It's a shameful exploitation of *our* airwaves and it has to be exposed for what it is--nothing short of political exploitation that goes well beyond the line. It's nothing short of propaganda.

I will never give up. Never, ever, ever.
This *has* to be stopped.

101. And taught in schools as "history." It's not intended merely as a TV show.
The tie in with Scholastic and dissemination to schools with accompanying teaching materials, the giving away for free of DVD's and online downloads. It's not just a bad TV movie among so many others. It's not about selling airtime, since they have no advertisers for the film. It's invented history intended to propagate what they claim is the "official" version of 9/11. They wouldn't have been claiming it was based on the 9/11 Commission to give it legitimacy as "history" and go to such lengths to make it available for free and disseminate it as a teaching module to schools if it was merely intended as "just" a TV show.

103. Their passing lies off as truth, it's a little more serious than that
It's completely unacceptable to allow them to get away with this.

106. Anyone remember the post election view of our party.
A bunch of spoilsports who just can't take a loss. I know in my heart that election was stolen. The proof is everywhere! The Avg joe, he just thinks we lost. You see this movie is a lie, I know you know it we all know it but by fighting it to the level we have we've made it much more than it was. To the avg Joe it looks like "the truth so real the Democrats tried to have it Banned". For what a TV movie that would have gotten killed by bad timming on ABCs part and forgoten had it just be left alone but this is our "Bush must go issue of the week" so I understand we had to fight it. As a party and a group we haven't learned that this is a losing way to fight. Now I'm not saying we stop fighting but we needed to learn better ways and soon are 06' and 08' will look like the last 15min of "The Wild Bunch."

and, I might add, we've done so well in the past trying to ignore the slander that Repugs keep throwing around.

127. That's what the neo-cons and Republicans
like to do. Slander. They should be called the Slanderers or the Slander Party.

112. Nonsense, it is not just a TV show, nice to see it gets you all riled up.
The M$M gave ABC a huge amount of publicity, but yeah yell at us here at DU. Like we compare to the M$M for exposure. You obviously have no idea what is at stake here. :eyes:

124. I've got a docudrama I think ABC would love
It solves 911, the Lindbergh kidnapping, the Judge Crater case, and the anthrax attack all in just six must-see hours. Hint: George Bush did them all.

125. I agree
There's no such thing as bad publicity. Boycotts and the like against Disney worked so well for the homophobes.:sarcasm:

If it's one thing I hate with a firey passion of 10,000 suns, it's censorship. Stopping this movie will only make people more interested in it thinking that some "truth" is being suppressed. Since this sounds like a Lifetime 9/11 movie, I doubt it would have garnered decent ratings on its own.

I can't comment on the movie because I haven't seen it. What some blogger, some critic, some pundit have to say about it is irrelevant to me. I can watch it and judge for myself if it is rubbish or not thank you very much. I don't need a "well-meaning" group to decide for me what is appropriate to view.

Sadly I'm seeing the same book-burning mentality here that I would expect from Free Republic. And yes, I think the stopping of the Reagan movie from airing was a bad decision. If people don't like it, then there is that invention called the remote control.

Whenever someone's legal speech is snuffed, everyone loses. What if it were a movie exposing Bush administration corruption?? The pendulum swings both ways or be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

Anyhow, that's all I have to say on the subject.

132. Oh, bull$hit!
It's silly to call this a book-burning mentality. Book burning is about supressing an idea. this is about making sure the facts are correct, and holding those who are distorting them accountable.

126. ABC sent 100,000 letters to teachers telling them to ask their students
...to watch the docudrama.

This is big.

I don't want millions of kids to think Clinton did a terrible job on terror and Bush did a wonderful job.

It appears you've ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time as usual, Bugs- you may feel more comfortable among those at "that other site", which I won't bother posting a link to. There's a good chance you're more than passing familiar with it anyway.
