Ever since the overthrow of the Shah in Iran, we have looked at Iran as the bad guys of the mideast. But watching the news recently, I have the sense that they want to tell their side, and want some conversation with the USA. Bush & gang have them labelled as part of the 'axis of evil', which they may be, but based on their past record(Bush) we know they will lie if it serves their cause.(oil) I wonder if other people on this DU have the same thoughts?

5. Iran wants security guarantees. BushCo is bent on regime change. |

The Bush administration envisions a Middle East secured by the installation of docile pro-Western regimes. Short of surrender, no amount of talk will give the Bushies what they want.

I thought this might be more important to consider, remembering how our gov't sought ways to justify the Iraq war. I just read about some incident on the northern border where the Iraqi soldiers were trading fire with Iranian soldiers. And it just so happens there was some American soldiers nearby 'overseeing' the action. My thought was that Bush could use some incident like this to get it going with Iran.

It is as simple as that.
Past lessons learned through history or even in the IraqNam fiasco are like water through a sieve with these folks. They have an agenda and no fact, no adverse condition and no contrary results will change their minds. Reality to them is a matter of spin, not truths and consequences. just look at the latest revalation from Rummie. He threatened to fire anyone even raising the issue of post-invasion planning.
And he remains in his post? How many innocents have died because of his personal hubris, conceit and ego problems?
Cheney is even worse, and to my mind, the cheerleader and puppet master of the entire admin. He refuses to consider talks because it takes away his ability to start wars. With other people's lives and with great profits flowing to his friends.
