Attn Californians! Tell Arnold to vote against the Electoral College!
The state legislature has passed a bill that (if similar bills are passed by other states) will ensure that the winner of the popular vote will always win a majority in the Electoral College.

It's called AB 2948. Please encourage Arnold to ratify it: http://gov.ca.gov/index.php/site/contact-governor

For more info: http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/npv/

For more info on why the Electoral College is bad (you already know it is, but this includes some interesting numbers): http://fairvote.org/?page=1729

More complete explanation of what the bill would do: California would agree to enter into an interstate compact (binding legal agreement) with other states to give all of its electoral votes to the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide. The agreement would not go into effect until states with a total of 270 electoral votes (enough to elect the President) had signed the agreement. In a nutshell if this ever happens you have an instant direct election.

1. What if California votes Democratic and the US votes Republican?
The EC cuts both ways and so does this bill. I don't want to be disenfranchised when the national tide is against my interests.

If this was implemented between 2000 and 2004, Bush would have won the EC by a landslide.

No thanks!

5. It only goes into effect if a majority of electoral votes pledge..
... the same way.

Until enough other states ratify this bill, such that there are more the 270+ electoral votes pledged to the popular vote winner, California's electoral votes will be distributed as the are right now, meaning that they'll go blue.

What this bill says is that once enough states have signed on, all those states (the majority of the EC) will pledge to vote for the national popular vote winner.

If this system were in place in 2000, Gore would have been President.

and he knows he's pulling these stunts that have absolutely NO CHANCE in this political atmosphere. The only thing I'll tell The Grope-n-Ator is to kiss my fat black ass.

6. This would be a great way for Californians to have less influence
on the election than they do now.

Sounds like a dumb idea to me, to put a largely Democratic state up for grabs.
