Democrats: It's time to organize a nationwide boycott of Disney |
|
It sure looks like there's no point in asking, pleading, begging them to be fair. Quit fucking around with this shit. It's time for payback. Why give them your hard-earned money?
BOYCOTT.

2. "Organized" is the key word. |

This needs to be a well-planned and well-executed punch in the nose.

3. the 2-week idea was silly |
|
--Brent Budowsky, who's been writing some hard-hitting anti-ABC/Disney pieces over at Huffington, proposed a two-week boycott. That is so namby-pamby as to be ridiculous. Does anyone think ABC/Disney cares about 2 weeks of lost revenue? How does that affect stock sales? Dump your stock and then buy it back 2 weeks later? Boycotts are hard enough without putting some wimpy little time limit on them. Are we that addicted to the ratmeisters that we would actually go back to watching ABC/visiting DisneyWorld 2 weeks after PT911? After they have revealed their true contempt for their responsibilities as broadcasters on the public airwaves, and their true agenda as official propagandist "news" writers? Wouldn't it make you feel a little "sold out," a little compromised, even in the slightest, to have anything to do with them after this? sheesh. I have informed ABC/Disney that I have severed all dealings with them and will NOT be back. JUST SAY NO--FOREVER--TO CORPORATE SWINE.

10. Public Airwaves are the key. |
|
We need to file statements at every single license renewal of an ABC affiliate Station that airs this show. There our airwaves it is contrary to the public interest to put this type of propaganda on to influence the elections-complain when they try to renew. Lets fight.

4. It Should Go Beyond Boycotting,... |
|
---- A Disney boycott is fine, but it will take more than that to amount to "payback." And payback doesn't quite describe the full potential of a well-considered response, either.
---- Certainly, ABC should see some lawsuits arising from the airing of a deliberate propaganda flick,.... But there is substantial political opportunity in doing a true "Woodward & Bernstein" number on the production and financing of this whole thing. Follow the money. Out the goddamned RW fundie crusaders who are alleged to be behind it, and delineate their connection both to the network, and to the GOP. I bet we don't yet know half of the insideous little inner paths and workings of the overall scheme. The democrats need to QUIETLY put a pack of detectives and investigative reporters on the case. At some point, political links will be uncovered,... have no fear.
---- And they are really going to have trouble explaining that "no commercial interruptions" business,...

There has to be a thorough investigation of their propaganda scheme.
Still, businesses ABHOR boycotts. $40M is small change for a big corporation, but a large number of registered Democrats cancelling their Disney reservations (and telling their friends) would make an impact on their revenues.

What side would the French fall on? Disneyland Paris? Don't the Saudis own part of that?

as of 1999. The current percentage is probably a bit higher (they had to ask for a bailout a couple of years ago).

11. How about expressing displeasure with the mouse in other ways |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 08:05 AM by Liberalynn
For instance what about searching for negative Disney stories and promoting them on the web. I know how to search but I would need advice about how to promote them.
How about writing to magazines such as TV Guide with negative letters about their regular programming. Like why so many Lost covers or such attention to Grey's Anatomy? No need to even mention the Path to 911. Maybe say things like you've always wondered whether their over premotion has more to do with the trips the writers get to Hawaii or Disney parks then just their popularity and quality alone? To be honest, I really have always wondered how this differs from Play for Pay on radio? Don't get me wrong I like Lost, just think it is over covered, and now I am giving it up, because of Disney's actions regarding to Path.
If you had a negative travel experience at their Theme Parks, how about sharing it with travel sites on the web.
How about banners negative to Disney that you use even on other sites. For instance in Spanish Mickey Mouse is said Raton Mickey. Photoshop Mickey as a huge Rat.
Little things and things that will take time to be sure, but just ways of reminding them we are out here and spreading the anti-mouse theme.
