Last night ABC shows Enemy of the State; CBS pulls Sum of All Fears
It's beginning to look like fear campaigns over nukes at CBS may have been pulled or just delayed a bit in order to counter the current dustup over DomesticSpying-gate.

The Will Smith/Gene Hackman movie clearly shows that our NSA's capabilities being at least five years ahead of the general public, according to James Bamford, could have prevented 9-11-01 had it really wanted to. How can I say that with a straight face ? Simple. Look at the new book Spychips www.spychips.com and the article in Motherjones interviewing the author

Total Surveillance
http://www.motherjones.com/interview/2005/12/albrecht.h ...

Coupling this insidious technology with purposely erroneous background checks

Who is checking the background checkers?
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1128/p13s02-wmgn.html

They've offshored, outsourced, and privatized TIA. Now all they have to do is fire you for being 'of the wrong political party' and put false information in your background data...and voila ! You've just created the most insidious terror project INSIDE the US.

A recent link by Sen Kerry obliquely refers to this. I wish the Senator would just plainly state, as Walter Cronkite did in Oct 2004 on Larry King, that Karl Rove is doling out OBL tapes !

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x209182

Our NSA is either covering mightily for an incompetent administration or is holding back essential information and allowing OBL & Co. to continue in operation, much as a Ted Shackley 'Third Option' operation would allow for. In the meantime, domestic surveillance violating 300 million US citizens' 1st and 4th Amendment rights are being rubberstamped to allow this charade to continue.

When Wal-Mart can track underwear I just bought with RFIDs and they can't track med equipment for the 6' Saudi with health problems, as Sen Kerry alluded to, you know something's rotten in Denmark.

But remember OBL has a kidney dialysis problem. If the NSA et al couldn't have tracked THAT equipment into the Afgan/Pakistan remote mountains HOUSTON, we have a problem.

1. Indeed.
That is some great info you have. I was thinking about this last night as I watched the movie.

2. I hadn't seen that movie before.
It was terrifying and eerily prescient. If I had seen it in 1998, I probably would have thought it was over-the-top, but in these days, it seems like business as usual. Great flick.

4. Soooo, Why do you think CBS pulled Sum Of All Fears ?
Ben Afleck movie about nuke attack on US ? Maybe pulled until later in order to amplify fears of terror attack a la OBL and to let last night's ABC movie Enemy of the State play out its emotional effect.

6. Maybe they pulled it for the fear that Aflecks performance in it
would do physical harm to its remaining viewers. From Alec Baldwin to Harrison Ford to Ben Afleck?

15. 24 on Fox appears to be a slam dunk gift to Karl Rove
Terror cells sleeper cells and inept Keifer Sutherland. A couple yrs ago I actually watched until they had an 'amnesia' episode, with Jack Bauer's wife, and started laughing my ass off.

5. My SO hadn't seen it either and was impressed that ABC chose it
to air right now. The sad truth is that all the shit we're so concerned about today is what they've been doing for over 10 years. What they can, and do, do today is completely terrifying.
If only the sheeple knew.

7. ABC plays that movie about every 6 months
and I never get tired of it. I wonder if anyone at ABC has ever actually watched the movie...if they had, they might not play it as often as they do.

I do think it's very timely that they played it this week. I wonder if someone over at ABC programming is a little more clever than ABC knows.

8. Mother Jones link doesn't work.
Also, Dh and I watched Enemy of the State last night. We've seen it before and the first time we saw it we both thought it was a great action adventure but kinda "out there". This time around we both felt like we were watching something that really happened.

We aren't in Kansas anymore.... :scared:

9. in Enemy of the State the NSA head said you have to discredit your target
I think that movie, shown at this time, does just that to the NSA. Good move, I thought, by ABC.

14. Yeah, I caught Jon Voight's NSA characher's BD as 9-11-40 as weird too
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 08:00 PM by EVDebs
Jerry Bruckheimer's Aaron Sorkin wrote the script and apparently was very prescient indeed (the film is from 1998
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120660/ )

CIA will occassionally 'go Hollywood'
http://www.fas.org/sgp/news/1999/10/wp101499.html

and this

Hollywood enlists in Bush’s war drive
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/nov2001/holl-n19.shtml

puts it right over the top:

""On November 11 (2001) more than forty top Hollywood executives met for two hours with Karl Rove, George W. Bush’s chief political advisor, to discuss ways in which the film industry could contribute to the “war on terrorism.” Here truly was a meeting of great minds!""

I wonder if there is FOIA on what the products will be ? Maybe there should be.
