From Buzzflash - PT 911 Rove hit job? They think so.
Forget about any pretense of the Disney-ABC $40 million (commercial free) "The Path to 9/11" being a project that accidentally went astray. With the facts available as of Saturday afternoon, September 9, one thing is already clear. It is a pre-meditated hit job, in the Rovian-GOP Swift Boat tradition.

Forget that the head of ABC is allegedly a Democrat; so is Sumner Redstone, who runs Viacom. But Redstone said in the 2004 election that while he preferred Kerry personally, Bush was better for Viacom profits, so he would vote for Bush. That’s what we got going here at ABC, which is owned by the often Republican connected Disney.

Before we get into some of the facts of the production – which are so glaringly reminiscent of the Swift Boat operation against Kerry and the Arkansas Project against Clinton – let’s propose a hypothetical – although highly plausible – scenario.

Let’s consider the strong possibility that last year Rove or an emissary met with the head of Disney. Rove knew that reality was running 180 degrees away from the rhetoric of the Bush/Cheney script for the "War on Terrorism." He needed fantasy to help reinforce a fictional narrative that the Bush Administration was and is peddling as fact.

5. Hmmm, I don't know.... See I don't think Rove is that smart!
Now, I can see a similar scenario where some RW fundie group comes up with an idea for a film to Cover Shrub's a** and blamthe whole mess on their most hated person in the world...BC! The big operators in the fundie groups all know each other and of course KKKarl! The guy tells KKKarl about his idea over aleisurely dinner and KKKarl says I'll think about it. It sure could help us if we get into a bind at some time. Remember, it's been posted here on DU that people were working on this film for 4 years!

I just won't give KKKarl all the credit. He's mean, nasty, arrogant, and has no concience, but I just don't think he's brilliant!

9. All this movie has to do is make the lie that it influenced the vote
believable, as cover for the coming election fraud. It's just cover, it doesn't actually have to successfully influence anybody.

Same old. Same as the "gay marriage getting out the base" ruse that needed to work long enough to get the 2004 election results accepted.
I think more people are catching on to this tired old game, and hope enough of us get it to not let them get away with it yet another time. The fact that this movie appears to be garbage as well as lies (think if it had been well-written and produced) is in our favor. I want it to be shown, and I want everybody to laugh in their faces when they try to use it as something that brought out their base.

10. Excellent point.
This needs to backfire; otherwise it's a successful smokescreen.

11. one big problem with your story is that the election is still 59 days away
Something I noti ed about American voters. They react to the here and now, but two weeks from, something lese will have popped up and they forget all about that film they saw.

14. That wasn't the point...
All they need is something to point to whether viable or not.

It doesn't matter whether people remember the piece or not, all the 'architects' need is to point to it and say, "That was the ticket!!", in order to deflect attention from the inexorable election fraud.

Disney must be forced not to show it.

The stockholders will be seeing losses.

15. Rove understands he's out of a job if Dems win the House back
Rove is brilliant to keep ABC 9-11 flick the center of controversy while more important news, Failing Iraq, Afgan, economy etc. slips by the american people while we're preoccupied ranting & raving over a movie while our troops continue to die and be maimed for life, Iraq-Iraq-Iraq!!!!!!(and Afganistan lately!!!!!)

16. I don't know if Rove is the mastermind behind this...
But I DO know that this is simply too well-organized and coordinated to consist of a random convergence of Republican interests. I also believe that this hatchet-job against Clinton was central to the Right's "strategy" for victory this election cycle. THIS was intended to be the rationale for the "massive swing" in voter sentiment at the last minute. I also think that this is only stage one of a multi-stage operation.

PUBLIC WAGER: I'll bet anyone who cares to that Osama or a look-alike is going to be "captured" a few days before the election. An imposter most likely, because the real Bin Laden is most likely dead. It'll go down thusly: We got him! Go vote Republican! A week later: Oops! Sorry! It WASN'T him, but aren't you glad you voted Republican?
