Walmart movie.
I just watched "Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price" last night and was, like any reasonable person, quite shocked at the extent of Walmart's improprieties. I have only shopped there a few times and that was many years ago, but I wondered how anyone could watch the documentary and ever return to the store.

Well, it's always interesting to read what the brilliant freepers have to say on most subjects and this one is quite indicative of just how truly heartless and ignorant they are.

1. Let them think whatever they like

Just concentrate on those you need to take care of. There is no point in trying to convince the Freeps. You're better off talking to the fence-sitters in the middle, the uninitiated, and the uninformed.

3. What gets me
is that all these pro-Walmart boosters around are totally ignorant of how many of Walmart's products are not made in the U.S. China is a huge supplier.

4. Son told me that the "Walton" model is being taught at university
now. Move into an area, sell inferior goods at below cost (a WalMart store is not expected to make a profit for three years,) then when you've run the competition out, raise the prices slowly.

5. I've always hated Wal-Mart, and even I was shocked at the extent of it.
I've seen most of the progressive docs around, but nothing prepared me for just how blatantly shameless Wal-Mart is.

The stuff about them encouraging their underpaid employees to go on welfare, taking up billions in taxpayer money was mystifying.

MoveOn should be making ads about that, because Wal-Mart is a major Republican contributor, and I don't think people would buy there if they knew what was going on.

7. There are plenty of people on DU...
who still insist on shopping at Wal-Mart.

Don't ask me why.

9. It's probably because not all of us live in urban or suburban areas
And often Wal-Mart is the only option for us unless we drive 50 miles.

10. I have to say, I'm impressed by the argument they're having.
More than a few of them seem to be seeing the Chinese elephant in the room.

11. Whirl-Mart protest
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 02:41 PM by chat_noir
One Arrested and 12 Detained in Grand Junction’s First Whirl-Mart Action

A Whirl-Mart consists of activists forming a train of empty carts and whirling around, not buying anything.

The whirl-mart action was organized by the Grand Junction Fair Trade Alliance, and was met with an overwhelming security presence. “They were on us just like that,” said Laurel Hara, of The Confluence Collective. About ten minutes in to the Whirl-Mart action security guards stopped the activists; at this point the activists scattered only to meet up again. “Most of the costumers were confused, but others dug it.” said activist Connie Murillo. Other protesters reported getting thumbs ups and knowing smiles from Wal-Mart employees.

When the group was leaving, the Grand Junction Police Department showed up and detained the activists. The arrested activist was arrested as he tried to press charges against two Wal-Mart employees who shoved him to the ground twice as he was leaving the store. Shortly, there after the rest of the activists were released.
