The sad state of affairs in the U.S. Is it Monica Lewinsky's fault? |
|
Gore certainly would have gotten enough votes if it were not for the Lewinsky debacle.

1. No, Clinton's for taking advantage of what Lewinsky was offering. |

A classic error between a supervisor and the one being supervised. He certainly should have known better, but was a man of large appetites and limited personal control.

8. Indeed, despite winning the popular vote |
|
you need to have extra, over the top votes to beat the lying cheating swindlers of Bushco.

4. No it wouldn't have changed anything. |

If there had been no Monicagate, there would have been something else. The people who framed Monica and Bill were determined to get Clinton one way or the other. They would have found something else to smear him with.
I think Gore didn't do himself a favor by not including Bill Clinton in his campaign, but I really don't know whom to blame him or Donna Brazile for giving him bad advice.

6. I doubt it.. I think the public gets tired of one Party in the Presidency |
|
after 8 years, and it's VERY VERY difficult for that same Party to keep the WH.
Sure, Monica contributed to that "tired" feeling, but I doubt there would have been much of a different outcome.

7. If there hadn't been Monicagate |
|
they would've found something else. Have a thought for poor ML whose name will go down in infamy--she was just a young, silly star-struck kid at the time. That's a lot of opprobrium on the shoulders of a 22/23 year-old. SG

11. Monica was a good girl. A healthy girl. Monica was a normal girl. |
|
The problem was is that she knew what she wanted. And the big dog...well, the rest is history. I guess the moral of the story is ya never look back.
It was proved that Gore had more votes than junior. Was that Monica's fault?
Unequivocally, Fuck no!

Lewinsky, the theft of 2000, the illegal invasion of Iraq, outing of a CIA agent who specialized in WMD. The wingnuts are evil, but the 'press' are a bunch of shallow, selfish, self-important, self-aggrandizing, petty bastards who were supposed to tell the truth.

Enough of them bought the Repug and media lies that Bush was a moderate. Enough bought the lies that it didn't matter who the president was, that the economy would keep doing OK. Too many bought it all.
Of course, Gore DID GET MORE VOTES!

16. George Bush is the Clinton Legacy. |
|
Without Whiewater and Monica, Gore would have gotten elected.
However, Gore would not have been effective with a Senate and House dominated by the GOP. AND subsequent events have shown that Hillary was right in one regard - there is a vast right wing conspiracy.
All in all we need to learn and move on AND to figure out how to capture the center.

i don't see how monica can possibly be to blame for * stealing gore's seat, a gore presidency wouldn't have happened if everyone in the country voted gore, it was never gonna happen, we have witnessed a classic bloodless coup in our country & it's silly to pretend it was anything otherwise
gore was unwilling to start a civil war over this, and i don't blame him, we have the advantage of hindsight, perhaps if he had a peek into the future and knew abt 9-11, enron, katrina etc. he might have made a different decision
but it is not given to any of us to know the future
