"No thanks. I lived through it." |
|
My response to a friend when he said that CNN.com was replaying footage from 9/11 today.
Reminded myself of a certain Vietnam vet who said the same when someone asked if he was going to see a movie about the war.
I get what he meant now.
What glimpses I've caught this week before turning the channel have already had me in tears. Why would I need to relive the broadcasts of that day. The documentaries are already hard enough, with their footage of the attack coupled with the recollections of survivors.
I hope CNN knows that showing me this stuff doesn't make me feel like supporting the President's version of the war on terror.
It only makes me wonder why Osama bin Forgotten.

1. I can't understand why anyone would watch this. |
|
Why would anyone chose to relive this? I can understand their motives in replaying it, (liberal media my ass)
But I can't imagine anyone watching.

7. We watched Koppel last night |
|
It was weak as he had too many Bushco people. The relatives of victims and the guy from AFLCIO were the best guests on the program.

2. i agree, i don't want to relive it, it's just too painful |
|
it might be different if it was many more years later and we had brought to justice some of those responsible and things were mostly better now.
but it's too soon. we still have people out there fighting in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. they aren't even really fighting Al Qaeda there. it's among different groups.
i personally will not be watching it.

4. Living through a tragedy once is enough |

I can't imagine those who have lost a loved one and the pain they have to feel with all the hype that has been built up to today.

5. ME TOO..I AM GOING TO DO SOMETHING THAT GROWS..THAT LIVES |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 06:04 AM by flyarm
MY CO-WORKERS DIED THAT DAY..AND MY NEIGHBORS SON...SO I Am GOING TO THE nursery today..and getting my neighbors a new plant to plant..and myself as well..so it is something alive that can grow..
that will bring joy instead of tears...like a crepe myrtle that blooms in NJ this time of year..something that is pretty and makes one smile, instead of invoke tears and sadness..and is a healthy reminder..life goes forward.. with every tragedy we should learn lessons...
the lessons i learned were ...tell those we love ..we love them every chance we have..and don't waste time..
and say fuck you to fear..fear is paralysing....and a waste of time...
we all have a much, much higher chance of dying pulling out of our driveways with our car, than we ever have of dying by a fucking terrorist!
my feeling is ,.lets live life..and enjoy each day ...lets get our country back from these fucking fear mongers..and lets live!!

6. I most of a show on CBS yesterday morning, All that I felt that day came |
|
welling back up; the horror, the anguish and the anger.
My husband had turned the TV on figuring I might like to catch the morning "news". Some of it, like Couric's interview with the Jersy Girls, was interesting but I turned it off when Condi came on to spew her lies and BS.
Five YEARS... that SOB knew it was going to happen, at the very least LET it happen, has absused the power given to him, still NO Osama Bin Laden and how many thousands MORE are dead, many innocents, from BuSh*'s callous, criminal and negligent acts and inactions both here and "over there". :grr: :grr: :grr:

9. We have had the same thoughts |
|
When the commercials for United 93, World Trade Center and the other 9/11 shows come on T.V., my wife and I have the same thought. It never fails that when something like that airs, one of us will always tell the other something to the effect of: "that day was hard enough to deal with as it was, I don't need to sit through it again to realize how awful it was".
That's not to say that I don't appreciate and watch a well-informed documentary or investigative report on 9/11. I just prefer to let the powerful memories of that day go untouched by propaganda pieces or politically motivated fear-mongering.

10. Gave me nightmares this morning. I've turned it off-it's traumatic. |
|
I had the TV on earlier--I use it as an alarm clock, so it switches on automatically at 5:30.
I guess it didn't wake me up because I came around about 7:00, having had a horrible nightmare. I must have been hearing the footage and discussion while I was asleep and my brain made a dream out of it.
In it, two guys kidnapped me and told me they were going to take me on a plane and hijack it. I started screaming to this crowd around me, trying to tell them what was happening and no one would believe me. I was terrified, but for some reason I kept screaming, "Do you really think that Bush has made us safer?!? Just look what's happening! Look what's about to happen! He's going to let them do it again!"
People just stared at me silently, sneering, shaking their heads in disgust and then turning away to go about their business.
Next thing I know I'm on a plane sitting next to one of the guys and I know The Moment has arrived. He's going to start by cutting my throat and then he'll take over the plane. Sure enough, he takes out a boxcutter and smiles at me. I start crying and trying to protect my neck with my hands, begging him not to do it, to just wait a minute, just wait a minute already. I realize he's going to do it anyway, so I start screaming hysterically, trying to warn everyone on the plane. No one even looks in my direction.
That was the scariest and most disturbing nightmare I've ever had. I'm not one to be afraid of Terra, Terra! but I guess the teevee's death-orgasm today, and probably the memories of the chaos and fear I felt five years ago was just too much for my not-quite-conscious-yet brain.

11. I see MSNBC is replaying their broadcast from 9/11 as well |
|
Yeah, I don't need reminding. I still remember people I don't know, standing out with me on MY FUCKING BIRTHDAY that Friday with candles and the American flag, freezing our asses off at 7pm for the vigil. People were driving around with them in their cars. We finished by singing God Bless America, then I went to my favorite pub and got pissing drunk.
Oh, yeah. Good times. 9/11, my mom's death anniversary on 9/12, and my birthday, all in the same damn week.
