1. I don't think so - this is a syndicated column |
|
Probably shows up in a lot of papers - I saw it earlier at Townhall.com - considered writing on it (and still might). I think the Boston Globe has a reasonably good reputation - but I could be wrong. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

15. Globe has had operatives working there since Segretti's days w/ the GOP. |
|
They keep a few in the newsroom and two on the editorial pages - and have for DECADES. They've done it at all the key newspapers - NYT - Chicago Tribune - LA Times.
WashPost is freaking crawling with GOPs.

3. The Globe is pretty respectable. |
|
They are nationally recognized. Much like the NY Times, they print OP-Eds from both sides of the spectrum. Also much like the Times, they are a corporate entity and behave as such.
There IS a RW rag in Boston. It's called the Herald.

5. Nope... They Have a Variety of Views Written in the Globe |
|
but if you find something blatantly false, I would let Boston Globe know about it.
The right wing may have their own point of view (opinion), but not their own set of facts.

He's one of their several "Right Wing Assholes For Balance". Cathy Young is another one. As is Bruce Tingsley and his "Mallard Fillmore" (alleged-)comic strip.
Each time the "Globe" calls us up and asks us if we're ready to resubscribe again, we simply ask them if they're still running those three abominations. They say "yes" and we say "Then 'no'; call us when you've cancelled them."

|
in an attempt to keep them honest. It's nothing personal against Kerry. When I was reporting, I reported negative things on elected officials I actually liked. It's the way it is.

18. Actually it did seem to be personal with Kerry. |
|
The Globe went out of its way to stick a fork in Kerry on a regular basis despite the fact that they endorsed him for both his senate and presidential campaigns. I'd rank their support for Kerry above Imus's support, but that ain't saying much.

I live in Boston and it is usually very balanced but this is over the edge. Looks like they have a nut job on staff. All and all the paper is really good.

reason enough for me to doubt their judgment and credibility - and to cancel my subscription.
The Globe also accidentally released the names, addresses, and CREDIT CARD NUMBERS with bundles of papers within the last year. In fact I was giving them a pass and kept my subscription until that happened.
When an organization takes your financial and personal information so that you can purchase a product from them, it is their obligation to protect that information. Period. No well what if's, no accidents do happen, no excuses at all.
I am furious that our government cannot provide more enforcement in this area.

11. Jacoby is their Oped Asshole of Record |
|
The Globe is standard center-right Democratic (DLC New Dem) mainstream media. Good local coverage, decent national, and one of the best sports sections in the nation.
Tom Oliphant is an excellent left of center Oped balance to Jacoby.

12. I Can Answer Jacoby's Moronic Question |
|
He wants to know if there were ever any presidents for whom there was this much desire for assassination.
Well Jeffy, you idiot, the answer is YES! Four of them! You moron. Four presidents have actually been killed, which means that at least four presidents were wanted dead more than people want Silverspoon dead. Nobody has attempted an assassination on the idiot prince. Not even attempted!
So, obviously Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy were wanted dead, by somebody, more than the current occupant.
How do guys this stupid get their own syndicated column? The Professor

I subscribe to the Globe and can definitely say that.
Although they give Jeff Jacoby and Carol Young their opinions (and why not?) --- these two asshats are MORE than balanced by James Carroll, Derrick Jackson, Tom Oliphant, H.D. Greenway, Robert Kuttner, Ellen Goodman and a host of other occasional columnists.
