BartCop:" Hard-hitting newswoman" Katie Couric fawning over Bush

Katie Couric: I know you care so much about the soldiers in Iraq. And when we told some of them we had an opportunity to speak with you, almost all of them said, "Would you please ask the president of the United States when can we come home?

Dubya: Mmm. And the answer is when the mission is done. When your commanders decide you can. You know, I get a little different response from the soldiers I meet. They've all said, "I'm honored to serve the country. I understand what we're doing. I'm proud to be a volunteer." I can't tell you how great the military is. It's such a proud group of people.

Couric: Well, Mr. President, thank you so much for your time.

Dubya: Good luck.

Couric: I'm really grateful. Thank you. Thank you.

1. Couric: What did you know and when did you know it about 9/11?
Why was the Director of the White House Situation (War) Room with you on 9/11? (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=125&topic_id=114370&mesg_id=114370)

Why did the Secret Service immediately spirit Dick Cheney away but left you at Booker Elementary for over a half hour?

Why did you refuse to testify under oath?

Why did you refuse to testify alone?

Those are just for starters, Ms. Couric....

2. Actually, the question in your post is OK; it's deceptive.

She pays Bush a compliment, then turns it around - "almost all of them said.....when can we come home?" He didn't bite really; and of course they haven't all said what he claims.

(I'm not a fan of hers)

6. the question was good, her incessant thanking at the close was weird
Like she was bowing down to him, "thank you oh wise one, thank you thank you thank you *kisses Bush's feet*"

O~well b/c that question was actually quite pointed and relevant.

4. Compare to this one
COURIC: You use images of Iraq before the invasion. And if I recall, you have pictures of, film of children playing in playgrounds. You sort of hear the sounds of children laughing.
MOORE: Yeah.

COURIC: You have people eating in outdoor cafes. But even people, Michael, who are vehemently opposed to the war would tell you Saddam Hussein was a tyrannical despot—

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: who killed people—

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: for absolutely no reason.

MOORE: That’s correct.

COURIC: A murderer.

MOORE: Mm-hmm.

COURIC: And wouldn’t your movie have been better balanced if you had at least included some about Saddam Hussein’s own reputation?

MOORE: You guys did such a good job of telling us how tyrannical and horrible he was. You already did that. What—the question really should be posed to NBC News and all of the other news agencies: Why didn’t you show us that the people that we’re going to bomb in a few days are these people, human beings who are living normal lives, kids flying kites, people just trying to get by in their daily existence? And as the New York Times pointed out last week, out of the 50 air strikes in those initial days, the—we were zero for 50 hitting the target. We killed civilians and we don’t know how many thousands of civilians that we killed. And nobody covered that. And so for two hours, I’m going to cover it. I’m going to—out of four years of all of this propaganda, I’m going to give you two hours that says here’s the other side of the story.

If she made more statements during her "interviews" she wouldn't even need a guest.

This country is SO FUCKED UP. At least watching A-Rod play gives me pleasure, as opposed to wanting to gouge my eyes out.

9. What a good little media whore Couric is.
"I can't tell you how great the military is." - Bush

No shit you can't...you wouldn't know the first thing about the military. Fucking loser.

10. "I can't tell you how great the military is".
If that's the case, why did you do everything possible to get out of serving your country? Why didn't you finish your stint with the Air National Guard? Why do you now continue to send young men and women to their deaths for what has been proved to be a pack of lies?

Now those are REAL questions, Katie? :eyes: What a lightweight, on BOTH sides of the interview.

12. When a tired old broad like Katie gets paid millions of Dollars
and knows she was hired for her youthful perkiness, is it any wonder she has become fixated on her image and ignores serious journalism altogether?

I get tired just thinking how many long, long years now she has had fake her enthusiasm and perkiness. :boring:

13.  The conversation tells me that Bush is still in bubbleland. Troops seem
not to tell him the same things they mention to C0uric and others.

17. Is she really that much worse than, say, Russert of MTP? Did you
see his hour-long "interview" of Dick Cheney Sunday?

A real rhythm developed, and played out over dozens of bars: Softball question, sound-byte lie, followup softball question, detailed recitation of false talking points and doubletalk.

Then no followup, and on to the next set of lies on Cheney's talking-point agenda.

IMO, Russert is infinitely worse than Couric, because, unlike Katie, who evidently doesn't even know what she doesn't know, Russert must know the facts that would expose Cheney for the serial prevaricator he is.
