Damn, lots of flying out of Tinker AFB this afternoon.
Two sets of four flew over my house within the last four or five minutes, low and loud. I guess it's really not that remarkable, but for some reason it's given me goosebumps.

Here come some more! FUCK! Four more, all heading south. It's beginning to sound like a war zone, without the explosions. Giving me the creeps.

24. Cute sarcasm - yes I realize that - however as a snapshot of an AFB
in the middle of the day it is very representative of what that AFB functions as. In this case, I'm right.

(My turn for sarcasm)

Oh and look...Let's see if there are any fighter squadrons based at Tinker, shall we!?

Hmm...From their main website: http://www.tinker.af.mil/default.asp

We see a list of all operations squadrons there...

Air Logistics: http://www.tinker.af.mil/ocalc.asp
72nd AB Wing: http://www.tinker.af.mil/72abw/ (the airport)
552d ACW (AWACS): http://www-ext.tinker.af.mil/awacs/
3CCG (combat communications): http://www.tinker.af.mil/3ccg/
38th Engineering Group: http://www.tinker.af.mil/3ccg/
654th (bombers): http://www.tinker.af.mil/654clss/
507th (gas station in the sky): http://www.507arw.afrc.af.mil/

HG Global Com (more com stuff): http://www.tinker.af.mil/hfgcs/index.htm
AF NDI (boring stuff): http://www.tinker.af.mil/ndi/

Hmm...whaddya know!? NO FIGHTER WINGS!!!

27. Ok, but, that wasn't sarcasm...
I've met people who think it is real-time. I saw no mention of your comparing it to a typical day on the base, just here's what google maps shows. I wasn't out to piss in your wheaties, but I did delete the  before I posted.

Just because there are no fighter wings based in tinker permanently doesn't mean they aren't there at times. Tinker is a convenient stop in an area of the US which is relatively dense with training areas. In this case it turns out to be a flyover at some event in OKC.

19. I know, I couldn't find anything about fighters on their web site either.
But they were def. fighters. I grew up near an air base in NM so I know the difference. These just looked like regular old F-whatevers, not the stealths but definitely not tankers or cargo planes. These were in formation, in groups of four.

I guess whatever exercise they were doing is over now. It's neat to see them, but so many in succession and so loud and low, kind of disturbing.

of normal operations (like a real response). That's why you aren't used to hearing those types of engines.

6. Where is Tinker AFB?
They're probably doing flyovers at some sporting event. They do that all the time out here (Seattle) and it drives me nuts.

10. Nah, it's Oklahoma City--no sporting events tonight, I'll bet.
They're probably having some special type of 9/11 drill. I'm hearing something too, but I didn't think to look out the window. I'll have to pay more attention if I hear something.

21. Four were F-16's - they showed them flying in formation on the local news.
..and my kids, who were playing in the back yard, spotted them from their tree house and came running in to tell me (I used to be in the Air Force). They were pretty excited.

22. Thank you! It was neat to see them. Just creepy because
there were so many in such a short time, and they were so fast and low. I figured it was probably some sort of "scrambling" exercise. Like I said, I hadn't even heard about this event.

I can just imagine your kids doing that! I used to get like that about the planes back in my hometown (F-15s--those were the town's pride and joy years ago), and I still get like that when the stealths fly over near Alamogordo.

I live a mile or some from the Air National Guard base across town and nothing unusual here. Tinker is in Del City btw.
