I was rude to a republican today at work...
We had a brief discussion about the 9/11 movie and he said "You ought to be arrested for saying things like that about our President."

I said, "That seems to be the way most Republicans think about Democrats... I used to feel the same way aboout Republicans but I realized you couldn't arrest people for just being stupid."

His eyes widened and he started to say something else when I added: "If you could, Bush would have been jailed a long time ago."

He turned red and left the scene before he started swinging.

3. No....HE was rude to YOU.
What an incredibly inappropriate and obnoxious thing to say to you - that you should be arrested for exercising a Constitutional right. What country is HE from?

11. YOU were not rude--I, on the other hand, would have looked at him and
said, "have you ever actually READ the constitution? do you even have the vaguest idea of what it says, what it stands for? Actually, I will answer my own question. It is painfully, sadly obvious that you do not, and you have demonstrated that you are too ignorant for me to even try to engage in dialogue with you" and walked away.

41. They do have a surprising level or hatred
Today a right-winger at work said "I see dead liberals." He thought it was funny. I'm going to wait until I have just the right response to him.

These people have all the power yet they're such miserable creatures. Maybe it's because they're such assholes and they have no friends. RW-ers can't even get along with other RW-ers, I notice.

23. Since when, and where did they get the notion...
that "the President" is such a sacred being. Obviously, it only applies to 'their' president and not just to the Office of the President. Though, by using only the word "President" in their complaint, "...for saying things like that about our President", they are implying their problem is with insults to the Office. So their argument breaks down pretty fast when exposed to any kind of analysis, yet it exists in their minds in just that way. One of a collection of false, irrational, almost mythological 'beliefs'--put there by who knows who and by what means, it's not clear.

Perhaps it's via the subtle manipulation of the media, though apparently not very obvious to those less susceptible (some of the manipulation is obvious to us and not to them, but this reverence for the office and various other mental constructs aren't so easily explained). It might be easier and less of a puzzle if it came out that they'd been attending special therapy sessions to 'clear' their minds such as certain "pseudo-religions" have done, and make no mistake, this 'new' Republicanism is definitely a pseudo-religion or cult like reality--at least for the hard-core thirty percenter's (Colbert's "Backwash").

It's easy to call it stupidity, and it is stupid (absurd and a host of other disparaging adjectives apply), but we need to understand what's going on in the minds of those infected by it. How does one restore rational thought, as well as how to purge such implanted, pro-authoritarian beliefs? Just another fine question. Important because we are surrounded by the infected; facing a virtual epidemic of such thought viruses. We must find the antidote (to save these people; sans religion) and develop a vaccine (to prevent further spread of infection). We have to fight this republi-authoritarian meme with a democratic-critical-thinking meme. It scarcely helps to open their eyes, if their eyes are clouded and their minds are overrun with rules that say "don't trust liberals; refuse to believe; don't listen; reject, reject, reject anything other than the beliefs of the collective".

Which reminds me, I don't doubt that the secret republican mantra has become: "you will be assimilated; resistance is futile" and/or "praise bush, he is the way and the means, all will be laid at our feet...". Sadly, this last is only half intended as humor.

27. Arrested for saying something bad against the President?
Isn't that what they used to do in the old Soviet Union and in Nazi Germany and in Saddam Hussein's Iraq?

Someone needs to tell these idiots that demanding blind obedience and unquestioning loyalty is not patriotism - it's fascism. They love to wave the flag, but they have no idea what it actually stands for. Patriotism is not waving the flag; patriotism is fighting for what that flag represents.

get away with it. Who would decide for you what you should like and dislike, think and not think, whether you should be jailed not due to breaking any laws, but for breaking with his approval of a fake patriarchal privilege and out of his own fear revealed to himself. Beware of him if you have to see him often.

And would probably end in a call to 911.

To say that I would be arrested for criticizing Chimpy is like telling me I'd be arrested for breathing.

It would not end well.
