Fuck, dammit.
I'm a supervisor. I have once, maybe twice at the most, posted about a woman in my department with a son who joined the Marines, only to be sent almost instantly to Iraq.

She has told me things that he's described in Iraq that made me physically ill.

She told me things that her son's unit was being told to do, to prepare for the next war, that scared me.

He just returned for his second tour.

I worried for her son and for her. Today, she came to my office, in tears. She didn't need to say a word.

An IED, 0700 on 9/09/06. I want to relate her description of dealing with the "call center" that's used to notify families of the dead, the injured. But, I can only rage, right now.

BTW, her son is being flown to Bethesda, where she will be waiting. She and her husband are being given tickets to fly out to be with him. "The shrapnel hit his face."

"He's serious, so we're going to fly you out to Maryland."

He's 19.

18. You've seen the human price
But probably most of us won't unless we go looking for it. The President talks total war, but he and his bloody-handed pals and the unspeakable Republicans who support them are doing their best to make sure that the average American doesn't see or feel anything resembling war.

At best, numbers are all we get, and maybe a picture in the newspaper of one more local kid who is coming home in a bag. We certainly see nothing of our wounded and maimed, not to mention the Iraqi men, women, children, the entire families that we have butchered over there.

I've seen tapes and news broadcasts from the Viet Nam years and it looks to me like Americans then could see with their own eyes what was going on and how horrible it all was. The Republicans have made sure that they didn't make that mistake again.

21. Mothers' pain; the world seems saturated with it right now.
I have 2 mothers at work whose sons' lives are currently in the balance. Neither due to military action, but health and accident events.

I held one today for awhile and cried with her; the other just yesterday.

Everywhere I turn there is a mother grieving. I'm a mother of sons. There are no words to express what I feel, but to say that I am bleeding with every grieving mom.

Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 10:24 PM by nomaco-10
the story of a young boy who was 13 years old and on his way to school on September 11, 2001. He told his father that he wanted to join the marines as soon as he finished high school, and that is exactly what he did. He was killed by an ied last week.

Barbara Starr was stationed in front of the Pentagon and said "see that hill behind me, that's Arlington Cemetery, he will be laid to rest there this afternoon. He was 18 years old.

26. You know today in Matt Lauer's interview
he asked the liar in chief how he can sleep at night - in the context of getting the briefings he gets on the dangers that face the country - I was screaming at the video NO MATT not how can you sleep at night because of that - BUT HOW CAN YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION YOU HAVE CAUSED.

your post has me crying again for about the 10th time since yesterday - I am so sorry for your employee's son and my thoughts will be with him

My GOD will someone please please please stop these mad men/women.....

27. Let Her Know
my thoughts are with her, her son, and her family right now!

I have never agreed with this war...my husband is a Vietnam vet (14 months in country), and in hindsight he is angry about that one, and this one too. Kids do what they have to do...for their country and their own futures...but when they do so, they depend on that person in the oval office to make the correct decisions.

I hope she has strength and fortitude...right now her baby is going to need his mama. Godspeed!
