Do you remember Senator Durbin equating Gitmo to WWII? |
|
Nevermind that wasn't the intent, but does that give this admin a reason to equate Iraq to WWII, Roosevelt, Hoover, and anyone they can to WWII? Not in my mind, and it's another way for this admin to shoot themselves in the foot. I hope people aren't buying this.

Interning American citizens of Japanese origin is different than enemy combatants captured on the battlefield. Although it is not a good situation that the war will never be over and these people that were possibly just fighting for their country are held in our prisons indefinitely.
Wanted to add, we're not scoring any political points by standing up for Gitmo prisoners. I don't care if it's wrong or right, it's political death to stand up for these people and the GOP wastes no opportunity to bash us over the head with it.

saying it's the same situation, but that's how the media is going to report it and that's how people are going to interpret it. We've got to know that's what will happen. Also, like the OP says, it just gives more credence to their WWII comparisons.

3. Well, if they want to start letting these WWII comparisons fly around... |

they let Hitler escape from Berlin, when they let Osama escape Tora Bora (or rather their incompetence did.)

WWII generation. He quoted FDR's famous comment that "We have nothing to fear but fear itself". He then said that all the Bush had was fear itself.
The contrast of a comforting leader pulling the country together helping them conquer fear and a leader creating or manipulating fear for political gain.
It was a nice soundbite - especially if you try to picture each alternative. The other nice thing is it simply compares war time leadership.
